Hi, we visited a disability shop today to buy a recliner chair, while in there we asked about wheelchairs, I have a steel one which is really heavy and hard to get into and out of the car. We ended up buying a aluminuim chair with wheels that come off, hopefully that will make life easier all round.

The shop was very obliging, doing measurements etc, even offered us a cup of tea love Jaspercatxx

    Hi Jaspercat

I do hope you find your new wheelchair is fine. I'm in a wheelchair all the time so I do understand what you mean. The aluminium ones are good.

    Hope you enjoy your chair.

    Hello,
Although I'm not in a wheel-chair, my niece has a condition that means she uses one all the time. She bought a light weight one for a holiday in the States a couple of years ago and she and her husband find it very good for getting in and out of the car.

She's over the moon, today as she passed her electric wheel-chair, which is her 'home' chair, test, for using the chair outside!!! So, anyone living in the Oxford area, watchout! The OT told her she needed insurance!

Hope you get about well with your light-weight chair.
    Love Sue

    Hi Jasper

    Woo-woooh!! Look at you!

Seruioulsy sounds good - let's hope it helps with getting out and about. Is it one of those ones with angled wheels - i think they look really sporty.

And a cuppa too - good service. Did you get your recliner as well?

    Love

    Toni xx

    Hi Jaspercat

Glad to hear you've found what you needed with regards to a lighterweight wheelchair. I borrowed one from the Red Cross and it was pretty cumbersome and I couldn't manage it - OH had to sort it for me. It was only a temporary thing for me until I had my TKR.

It should make your life easier and I'm all for that!!

    Take care.

Hi, we ordered the riser/recliner too, the very nice gentleman in the shop said it they should be here within 4 days, maybe even thursday, he is even getting rid of my old recliner, I asked him about getting rid of my old wheelchair, he knows someone who takes things to Romania, who need everything, so I am donating it to charity love Jaspercatxx

That is great, I use a wheelchair and have a custom made RGK, it is so easy to push and as it doesnt have push handles at the back and it has a foot bar instead of foot plates I dont feel so bad as I would in the old steel ones!

I can manage to propel myself a good few miles in it!

    Enjoy the new freedom!

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.
