Hi
Home now, I had my THR last Thursday came home Monday it would have been Sunday but the pharmacy wouldnt do my drugs because the doc didnt send them down before 11.30 ( I wasnt very impressed). Anyway doing ok, its weird cos when I move my leg in a certain way (obviously the wrong way) I can certainly feel the joint replacement. Also I have realised that I am holding my body against the pain and I am twisted, so I am trying to relax when I walk and then its a lot better.
But the main thing is that its all over and done with now and it will all improve from here.

    Hi Denise
    Welcome back! xx
I am pleased to see that you are home again and that your op is finally done. Take your time with movements and physio/exercises. As you say, you are at the start of your road to recovery, and it is important to take it at your own pace.
    Take care

    Hi Denise

    well done you!!

Sounds as though you are doing very well. Wise to try to walk as normal as you can - though not easy - istinct makes us try to 'protect' the painful bits eh?

As you said all done and dusted now.

    Love

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Denise,
So glad that it is over. Just to reassure you I can still feel my replacement 9 months afterwards. Sometimes more pronounced than other times but mostly when sitting or lying I am aware that something is different!
Due another THR soon 2 metal hips and I will be like the eiffel tower.

    Hi Denise

You must be pleased to be home and the THR all over with. I hope your meds are sorted now.

Can't help with advice you a THR just wanted to wish you all the best. I know you have to be so careful with new hips - no lifting, heavy housework etc. It takes time to heal properly.

    Hi Guys
Thanks for all your replies and good wishes, Good luck to all you that are due replacements shortly - Liz I too was scared witless, but there is really nothing to be scared about, have a spinal and sedation and you wont know anything about it, the theatre teams a brilliant.
I had a rough day yesterday wasnt too well with sickness and dizzyness and couldnt get comfortable no matter what., but todays another day.
I am more relaxed when moving now so my bodys not as stiff, each day I know will improve, and its gunna be a sunny weekend so I will take my perching chair into the garden and have a sit there for a while.

Hi Denise, good to hear how you are doing and that you are feeling better again today. Enjoy the sunshine this weekend.

Is the perching stool the most comfy thing you have to sit on in the garden ...not that comyf - surely?

Yeah its the only thing that I can sit on, all my garden furniture is very low and no the perching stool wasnt at all comfy, its funny before my op I thought the perching stool was a great invention, but now that I have had the hip done its not at all comfy.

    Hi Denise

When I had my back op I used to get someone to take the seats (cushiony things) out and put them on the garden chairs - got several extra inches that way??

    Would it help??

Weather too nice to not be out enjoying it!

    Love

    Thanks Toni
But that still would be too low, Occy Health said that my chair in the house even with extra cushions on would be too low and my garden chairs are really low. this is because of the 90 degree rule when you have had your hip done, and I tell you that you can certainly feel it if you sit wrongly.
    Thanks again

    Oh Denise :(

Well the perching stool it has to be then :(

Sitting outside is really theraputic isnt it? I ahve been outside today and it's lovely. My brother and SIL have been over and we all sat out for a bit with a coffee.

Here's to a rapid convalescence eh?

    Love

    Hi,

what about a plastic garden chair - they don't fold but I leave mine out all year come rain or shine. Had mine last time i had my hip done ... so it is 13 years old and still going strong.

Did a quick search for a picture of one - £6 can't be bad! Lots of shops do them. Even more comfy with a cushion/pad on them.

NB some are higher/taller than others.
