Hi folks

Thanks for your advice and help with regards to better footwear. I'm still aching from my walk around the shops on Sunday in my Puma trainers. OH ordered a pair of MBTs online and they should be here early next week. I'm hoping the MBTs will make my life easier. They were half-price the same pair in Chichester were £159 and I got mine for £75.82...........bargain!!!

I'm also planning to get a referral to see a Podiatrist. In Hampshire referrals have to be done through your GP.

Thanks again for your help/advice.

Let us know how you find them. They should surely help with walking on the flat.

    I love a bargain too!!

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Sharmaine

I hope you love your MBT's as much as I love mine. I have hardly worn any other shoes for 3 years! In the hot weather Crocs take over but I love my MBT's for serious, enjoyable walking.

    Hi Speedalong

I tried on a few pairs when we were in town and it was like walking on air. I'm looking forward to trying them out and will certainly let you guys know how I get on.

    Hi Debs

Google them first :D See what you think. There are loads of reviews on them.

If you do go down that road, please go to a shop where the staff are trained to fit MBTs and are knowledgable about them. It is vital you buy the right size. I bought them in one of their specialist shops and she said we have many call in here after they have bought them elsewhere and they are not getting on with them. She said the reason is usually because they have not been fitted correctly and there is nothing she can do about it.

You do need to be able to explain to the person serving you about your foot problems and feel confident they understand. As I remember inserts are not adviseable with MBT's but that would need to be checked out by yourself.

Sharmaine - looking forward to hearing how you get on with them.

Elna - after walking in MBT's which require you to walk differently - you don't have any probs then going back to normal footwear?

I don't know whether I would feel safe in them. But after my op and recovery I want to try some on just for the experience to see if I like them or not. I've read all about them and am curious.

    Hi Speedalong

When I put other shoes on, I realise how comfortable the MBT's are.I have no difficulty reverting to walking in other shoes but just silently wish I was wearing the MBT's!!

After trying them on in the shop and walking up and down, the assistant asked me to put my usual shoes back on and walk up and down and my goodness, what a difference. My feet felt like blocks of concrete and the shoes so hard!! The idea of the MBT's is that you are walking in sand - a rocking motion. when you stand still you stand in the shoes as normal, if you see what I mean. You start wearing them only for short periods and lengthen the time gradually.

    Hi Elna

I've just been thinking of summer and it looks as if the weekend will be lovely and hot!

I'm sure I will love my MBTs - they felt fab when I tried them on in the shop. My feet have really been painful this week and if my feet hurt then I'm miserable. Thinking about it I haven't been walking properly for about six months and if I do push myself I suffer afterwards. My TKR has been successful that I keep forgetting that I was wheechair bound up until February 15! I'm going to ensure every pair of shoes I buy in future are well padded. We've got a party to go to in August so I'll have to look for something smart and comfy.

    I hope you're ok.
