Arther: pain in the neck!

Iris, a friend at school lent me a book on Trigger points - I struggled with the anatomical names of the muscles at first and was nearly put off - kept experimenting and got the hang of locating and treating my own trigger points. Really helped with getting rid of tension headaches (why I asked her about it in the first place.) Also really helped after I over did it gardening and had referred hip pain in my bottom!! Also good for referred pain in calves. Some physios and sport injury therapists also apply trigger point massage as part to their treatment/therapy.
Here is a link to the book I borrowed, consequently bought and have recommended to a quite a few people ..

Hope you sleep well and heat, towels and meds do the trick.
SpeedalongI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hiya Cris!
It is a bit easier thanks....I think my head isn't now about to fall off my shoulders.but moving my neck is a 'no go' at the moment and I've got it tied up with scarves and look like a bag lady.
I'm putting off going to bed cause I dread how it's going to feel over night but have got all the necessaries ready and loaded with meds so no excuse for delaying it any longer.
I will ask about the referral and the pregabalin (you on a commission) but will skip the quality of life bit.
hey ho....I have to go to hospital pharmacy tomorrow to pick up Mtx injections so could/ will pop up to the day ward if the neck is still bothering and speak to somebody....the janitor, porter, tea lady anyone..
love and ((hugs))

p.s Ruby is heartbroken 'bout slipper boy's 'operation'...... but asked about Ben? she doesn't mind about the back leg (she is a brazen hussy)0 -

Hi Iris,
yep I hope you long escape that talk! Mine was cus is just basically bar a few T joints from head to coxic and it was impacting so badly on my life and I was almost as bad as I was before the decompression...... its not now and all down to the pregabalins (yes I should be on commissionShall I ask them for some?
)
Now the bag lady look..... tis my normal though I tend to look like a bag lady who has been pulled through several hedges and possible a muck heapDo you think it will catch on?
Oh poor Ruby.... he is also neuters and so is Milo, they send apologies but Slipper boy said he will come and just play with her though he might wonder what she wants((( ))) xx

Hello Iris,
Sorry to hear that you suffer with pain in your neck. I too have problems with my neck, its awful at times. Like the other peeps on here I constantly use a wheat bag I am forever warming up in the microwave. It does help , but I also rub a gel in my neck that contains diclofenac. It is called Voltarol Gel and I get it on prescription from my GP. I use this on all my painful joints and I do find it helps me , I have problems with my tummy when taking pain killers, so this for me is a god send.
Hope you feel better soon
Best wishes

Hi Cris,
I think the bag lady look could be a winnerbut you have to have the arther shoes or boots and the hand splints to complete the ensemble.
I'm so glad that you have had such a good result from the pregabalins and I promise to put in a good word for you about getting a commission; who knows ..might be enough to buy your own private island where the 'girls' can run free. (we can dream can't we)
My neck is a wee bit better this morn but I'm going to try to collar (ha ha) someone at the rheummy day ward when I'm in pharmacy today picking up my supply of Mtx jabs. They're a good crew in at rheummy so it's worth a try.
Ruby is devastated about Ben and Miloand is wondering what they did to deserve that  .
hope you have a good day...give Primrose a wee kiss from me. x

Hi Lynda
this arther in the neck milarky is just not funny is it.
thanks for the tip though about the voltarol. I've got some really helpful suggestions from this thread so can try and see what helps. I've got my scarves on in layers and the heat bag is cooking nicely in the micro!
hope you get your diagnosis soon...xx

Hi Iris,
A collar helps but don't let your neck become reliant on it... I wish i had kept mine for the bad daysI see the pain clinic next week so she will re-trigger point me
Hey I think I might rig my rumo and ask if I could try 12.5... its so nearly working and it has so much to do and well he might say yes eh? I got the drip next month and don't want it cancelled cus of the crohn's but with a big side effect of haemorrhage..... I need it controlled and besides the bones were better last week than this
Sorry this is all about me
Hope you soon find your neck is a lot better soon and the boys said...... that will teach them to run offThe idea of farm collies crossed to Haz or Mi is scary.... Ben was already gone
((( ))) from me and a coat and hair nibble from Primrose

Cris you lovely person you
.....what on earth do you mean by apologising and saying ''it's all about you'' :?: :?:
you never complain and are always there for all of us  so why should you be feeling that you can't mention what's happening with your meds, arther and the crohn's :?
hmphhh :!:  I'm gonna have to give you a good cyber shake for saying that.
(well maybe not a shake....more of a cuddle really)
Phone rheummy...he will want to know what's happening and if he thinks an increase in Mtx is OK and will bring the crohn's (especially) and arther back in line then that would be soooo worth it!
don't dither...do it :!:

Hi Iris,
Don't shake me too hard pleaseHey I can complain as much as anyone sometimes
Just left a message on the answering machine and will see if he agrees to 12.5.......I said it was all a bit better last week and was working well but maybe an increased dose would get it all under control. He may think its too soon but worht a try eh? Hell I am keen here eh?!Its been a good drug for me so .....
You go careful with that neck and my lot send commiseration's to both Ruby and JakeyOh if he but knew what he is missing his hols would be spoilt
((( ))) xx

pleezzz let us know if rheummy phones you back.
Iris x0 -
Will do Iris, he may think its too soon but its been quick for the crohn's but I can't really use that one eh?
The wrists were slightly less swollen last week and that's been my 'lever'.... hey he isn't going to quibble much over 2.5 difference is he? ((( ))) xx

Hi Lynn!
thanks for the good wishes and the suggestion about massage and aromatherapy. I've not tried any kind of massage and Fayalso suggested that massage might be good on the lower part of the neck/ upper spine.
I'm not sure about it though as I really don't know how I'd feel about other people touching me (silly really... I've always felt like that; but of course there have been some exceptions!)
My neck is a bit better today, thank gawd but can't go turning my head without stabbing up the back of the skull. I popped up to the rheummy day ward.... but it's Friday...so no consultants about.
The nurse did say to call on Monday if it's no better and she left a message for my consultant so's he knows what's up. can't ask for more than that.
 X I hope Cris got help today for her meds. X
Peeps here are just the best and know how to make a body feel better. thanks again one and all.

Hello! Thought I would put my two penneth in as well. I have had a 'pain in the neck' for as long as I can remember (well, since I was at school which used to embarrass the hell out of me as a teenager - all the kids used to say 'have you got a crick in your neck) anyway, its never got any better, and sometimes like most of you, its really bad from time to time. Its worse for me when i'm tired. I have to lie down to watch the tv or if really bad, I go to bed and watch tv there. I feel it every single day and have done for about 25 years now, so much sympathy to all you neck pain sufferers. The wheat bag in the microwave plus co-codomol are the things for me - and I have tried hundreds of different pillows! Ah well, we get on with it don't we. xxxxxx0

Hi Kerry!
thanks for posting too.
I haven't had the neck pain for as long as you and can't imagine how hard it must have been for you coping with it for all that time. :?
heat does seem to give some immediate relief but doesn't last very long does it.
It's not got much better since Friday so I'm going to bite the bullet and phone rheummy ward again in the morn to see what the consultants suggest.
I've now got pain in the back too, so I guess it's just arther playing around again. :? never a dull moment for any of us :!:
nice to see you posting Kerry!
