New aches and dealing with other aches

Hi folks

I've had a week of arthur being troublesome:

-my shoulder hurts most days. OH strapped it up for me which has helped. With aching shoulder it means I can't sleep on my right side.
-feet are sore (my fault did too much walking on Sunday in flat trainers).
-new ache now in left hip - could this be the start of OA of the hip?
I can no longer sleep on my left side because of it. I tried sleeping on my tummy but that hurt my knees!!! So that left only one way to sleep on my back with legs elevated. Then I started to itch because of the co-dydramols - I had forgotten to put my moisturiser on. Tonight I'll be better prepared for bed.

Yesterday I had enough and put stocking bandages on both feet and did absolutely nothing all day except rest.
:lol::lol: I look as if I've had a major accident!

Anyway I've got to laugh at myself which seems to help with all the discomfort I've had this week.

I hope you are all ok.

Sorry to hear you've had a bad week. You sound like me. Ive had a terrible week of aches and pains, even more than usual.

I understand about the sleeping positions too, its so hard to find a comfy way to sleep. I, like you, can't lie on my left side as Ive started to get pains in my hip and my left leg really starts to ache. I can't lay on my stomach as my neck hurts and my shoulders ache.... its a nightmare!

I did too much on Tuesday because I felt 'a little better' and cleaned out the car ready for selling it and boy am I paying for it now!

Hope you have a better week next week, even if its just slightly improved...

    Hi Sharmain,

It might be down to the crutches you have had to use and the knee being out of sync will have pt additional strain on your hips.

If I were you i would ask when you next see your consultant cus it could be early onset and having a bit of a burn? Its what mine did a while back, is yours very sensitive to being touched or rubbed as well?

I hope it all settles donw for you and you find sleeping easier tonight. Take care Cris

    Hi Sharmaine

Is it the hip on the side of the TKR that is now giving you a bit of jip or the other one? You may find that once you have had the other knee done the hip rectifies itself. You may be using it more to compensate....could that be a possibility?

I am sorry to hear that other aches and pains are rearing their ugly heads at the moment. Let's hope it is a blip.

The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.

If you can lay down at night knowing in your heart that you made someone's day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day.

what a rotten time of it you're having
hope the doc or rheummy can see you soon and give you advice and meds to help.
it's worse at night when you can't sleep :( so fingers crossed your preparations tonight will pay dividends!

Hi Sharmaine, It is rotten when you get a set back, but as some of the others have said you might be over compensating on one side. Lets hope the new shoes help. Look after yourself in the mean time. Hope things are a little easier tonight. Ix

    Hi Elna

Yes, it is the hip on the operated leg. My back also aches. I think my whole body is in shock from walking again! I think the sooner the other knee is done the better I'll be. When my knee 'locks' on the unoperated leg I find myself dragging it along.

I'm being positive that all things will be restored one day. 8)

    Hi
In the end I resorted to taking my Tramadols for the day which has helped. Feeling a bit better but Sunday-Wednesday was pretty hellish.

I'm looking forward to sleeping tonight.

    Hi Caroline

I'm feeling better this afternoon - I just had another easy day.
I think I'll just have to get accustomed to sleeping on my back until I have my other TKR.

I hope you feel better too. Like you I overdid things and when you push and push yourself you end up paying for it.

    Hi Chris

You may be right with regards to long-term use of the crutches they put a strain on you...that combined with hardly any walking for 6 months (I had to use the wheelchair prior to first TKR). I will ask the specialist when I see him in a few weeks time. It's still early days I suppose TKR take time and it's been 11 weeks - they seem to have gone by very quickly.

I hate it when everything starts to ache! Feeling a wee bit better this afternoon.

    Hi Sharmaine

Just to say sorry you are not too good at the moment. I can't offer any advice but hope a few days taking things easy will help things.. It looks like it's going to be a lovely weekend weatherwise, so a good opportunity to get some 'rays' and just relax with a few magazines perhaps..

Hi Sharmaine sorry you are having a blip - don't loose heart - your body is telling you to slow down a bit. You have had a lot of exercise - the bike and the walking ... could be referred pain in the hip or the hip aching from what is being expected of it all of a sudden!!

Have you tried a body cushion/bolster (the sort pregnant women use) to support your top leg and body when you lie on your side? Until my hip got into final stages of waiting for op - this worked for me. Or is it the underneath leg giving you gip - in which case have you tried sleeping ontop of thick duvet or memory foam mattress topper. Both with meds too of course ...

Take it easy for few days and ride out the blip.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Marion

I'm always telling folks with OA of the knees not to overdo things and then I go and do it. Feeling my self today.

My friends can't believe that I'm walking about without any crutches or the wheelchair.

I will never go to the town centre again in flat shoes. All future shoes will have padding!

    Hi
Feeling heaps better today - energetic etc. Even managed my physio exercises last night - I couldn't manage them for 2 days. Eleven weeks post TKR is still a short time.

I slept like a baby last night.

    Hi Speedalong

I keep marvelling about how well I've done up to now and never really considered footwear. I've lived in my Ecco shoes - mainly because they;re well padded and comfy but decided to go out on Sunday in my flat Pumas - not good for pounding the town centre pavements. I keep forgetting that for months I was in a wheelchair and walking about with crutches. Now I'm walking upright without aids my feet are bound to be tender.

You're probably right my body has had to get used to things. My right leg also needs a TKR and the sooner that is done the better. I would go in next week if the specialist gave the go ahead.

I may look into getting one of those cushions thanks for the suggestion. I have a memory foam mattress topper and pillows which help enormously.

Feeling grand today and will attempt a bit of houseworks. OH is going to do the vacuuming for me.

    Take care

    Hi Bertyboy

I'm fine today nothing like a good night's sleep. Preparing for bed is military operation.....put a pillow under ankles last night and slept through until 7.30 am.

Full of the joys of spring today. Not long for you! If you have any questions re after the op just ask. Make sure you make good use of those ice packs after your op. OH was marvelous and made sure I was iced 3 times a day for the first 2 weeks. He was a good nursey.
