Hi Polly,
I have OA not RA so am not the best person to answer your post.
Have you looked at the leaflets published on this website they are very informative. There is one on meds http://www.arthritiscare.org.uk/PublicationsandResources/Listedbytype/Booklets/main_content/TherapiesbookletSept09.pdf
I'm sure other RA suffers will respond to your post soon.
Welcome to the forum.
SpeedalongI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -

It is an extraordinarily steep learning curve. It takes a while to understand all the ghastly things you're told, the ghastly things you think you're told, and the ghastly things that you think you should have been told. We know, we've been there and we can help. Courage, mon brave! (adopt a french accent for that last bit.) We will be with you every step of the way. DreamdaisyHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Polly,
There are a few different meds and I think a lot of it comes down to your rumo's preferences really. Its also down to where it is, what its effecting and if your unwell or not but good luck and let us know how it goes. Take care and don't get worried cus sometimes they find a drug that suits you first time. Good luck. Cris x0 -
Hi Polly and welcome to the forum
I have PsA , OA but not RA... so not much help....sorry!
What Cris has said seems right though as much will depend on all of those factors and the rheummy's own opinion.
glad you've found the forum and hope to see you joining in with other posts too.

Hi Polly
Welcome to the forum - you will find lots of friendly folks on here to talk to. Sorry that you may have RA. I have had RA for 14 years so understand how confusing it can be. For me one of the hardest things when I was diagnosed was that no-one could tell me for certain how my health would be affected or say for sure which meds would help. Everyone responds differently to meds so you may be prescribed something which works for you first time or you may find that you need to try a number of meds or combination of meds to find something which helps. I know that you will get lots of help and support from this forum though - so do keep in touch - we are all here to help where we can. Take care. Tillyx

hiya polly, welcome to the forum, i a newbie too, sorry u have ra, i also have ra, was diagnoised with last yr, i struggled the same way u are with all sorts of questions i wanted to know answers too, i had steroids for the beginning then went to a combination of pain relief and anti inflams, which keep it the pain to minimum most of the time, but some days are better than others. i hope u soon get ur appointment. sorry not much help but hope u start to feel abit better and things dont seem so confusing.
take care xpolly1985 wrote:im waitin on a rhemmy appoinment as gp thinks i have rheumatoid arthritis. can any1 tell me wat type of medication they would put me on or why they choose which meds. oh me its so confusing!!!!!0
