Black and White Films

I've just watched my favourite black and white film on DVD called Captains Courageous starring Spencer Tracy and Freddie Bartholmew. It's the story of Harvey (Freddie Bartholmew), a young spoilt boy who's father hasn't got time for him. He falls overboard when travelling and is pulled from the water by Manuel (Spencer Tracy) a Portuguese fisherman and they begin to build a strong bond when Harvey is forced to work his passage on the fishing boat. It's a wonderful film, funny and a tear-jerker and if you haven't seen it, it well worth looking out for.
Do you have a favourite old film, colour or black and white, that you can recommend?

ooooooooh, there are so many, depends how old, but I love Gone with the wind, an American in Paris, The Pyjama Game, Yentle, The Colour Purple (although I end up in a total state by the end of it), I did watch Go Towards The Light as someone said it is a bit of a weepy, well, I was just about inconsolable and now, years later, it still makes me cry thinking about it. Oh goodness Bubbles, get a grip..........I will have to get cup of T now.XX Aidan (still known as Bubbles).0

Dont watch many films, dont have the time but fave black and white film Brighton Rock.
I quite like those old monster films, frankenstein, Dracula etc which I used to watch as a very young child. I would sneak downstairs as my mum was at work and dad was too soft to tell me off . Also love musicals, Oliver, South Pacific,Wizard of Oz,My fair Lady etc but that is the dance training coming in.
But fave 3 films, Quadrophenia, Life of Brian and The meaning of life.I could watch them all day.
All I watch nowadays are Walt Disney DVDs, same once over and over again.

Hi Legs,
Oh I liked Harvey Nothing wrong with having a 6 foot rabbit eh?! I also do love to Kill a Mockingbird and I think it was very radical when it was written and turned into a film.
Best I don't know..... I kinda sad and love the Harry Potters, Nanny Mcphee and will shut up now...... but it was a good film
Luv Cris who is pleased to see you and hope your ok? xx0 -
I`m not a great movie buff, much to my elder son`s disgust - he is a writer, and film journalist, and sends me loads of films.
One black and white film that I did love was "The Heiress" with Montgomery Clift and Olivia de Havilland. Oh, and "Rebecca" with Laurence Olivier. Looking back, the acting was a bit hammy, but about right for that time.
A colour film that I really enjoyed was "The Horse Whisperer" with Robert Redford, mainly because of the magnificent scenery. Having read the book first, the changes made in the film, were a bit disappointing.
I`m afraid, it`s the written word for me, every time though....Ange.0 -
B/W film sailor beware with Peggy Mount.
Laurel and Hardy, used to love watching them when I was a child.
Now my friends daughter makes me watch vampire films (Twilight)
and Cris I too love Nanny McPhee

Harvey, Harvey, Harvey. Jimmy Stewart and a six foot tall rabbit. Recently my 17 year old and I were talking about old movies and I was telling her all about Harvey. Have since been searching for a copy because she wants to see it. Anybody know where I could get it, I would love to see it again.
