I have recently been having problems sleeping due to pain in my joints and went back to my dr who told me to up my amitryptiline to 50mg each night but although its slightly better i am still not sleeping well and then in the morning when its time to get up I am so tired its like i have been given a dose of anastetic and coming round from that.
Just wondered if anyone else has had this experiance from Amitryptiline, then in the morning the pain killers also make me feel spaced out.
All i feel like doing is sleeping but my body wont let me fully due to joint and neck pain. Hope it gets better soon.

Sorry Justinb not on amitryptiline, is it a sleeping tablet? If it is maybe it doesn't suit you and you need a different one :?

Hi justin! nice to meet you.
there are lots of us on the forum on amatrptyline and I know exactly what you mean about the effects of this drug.
amatriptyline is an anti depressant but also is very useful for treating some types of nerve pain and for helping with sleep.......including the nerve pain we get with arther. :roll:
I've been taking 60mgs amatriptyline for sleep probs and nerve pain for 5 years (on and off).
I was the same as you...taking at night before bed didn't help me sleep and then I was a zombie in the morning! adding tramadol would then finish me off until lunchtime. :roll:
I now take it earlier...about 8pm, and find that it works better for me and I don't have a hangover in the morning!
I'm sure others peeps will also have advice on this too.
hope you feel better soon!

I used to take Amitriptiline (sp) before my hip-replacement and it did work for me.. have you tried taking earlier in the evening , I used to take mine around 8pm and by 10 I was struggling to stay awake, then I didn't get the 'hungover' feeling the next morning...Our worst times are always our best lessons.0

Hi - I'm on that stuff(cant remeber name!!!) but I was told by the rhummy nurse and doctor to take it at least 2 hrs before I go to bed!! Never told me why, but I do notice that if I take it too late, then I do feel crapy in the mornings! Try it for a while and see if it makes any difference? If not, I would go back to the doctors??
let us know what happens.
