The bigger the lawn the bigger the mower. Try to get one with wheels as you don't have to control the weight or inertia of a Flymo or similar mower. Also, get one with metal blades as the plastic bits tend to need replacing on a regular basis.
Some new ones also have the ability to compress the grass cuttings and so need to be emptied less often. At this time of the year look around for bargains. Check online to see what discounts are available and what extras you can get as part of a deal. Shop around.

Hi Gayle
Isn't is sooooo annoying when things break halfway through the job  Sorry cannot really help you out here. In my time I have broken so many electric mowers that I have reverted back to a hand mower. I don't seem to able to break that. It is hard going with the first cut of the year but after that I run over the grass weekly until as late in the year as possible and it is ok for me.I must admit I much prefer the purr of a hand mower than the noise of an electric one. So much more peaceful for me and other people.

well you pays ya money and takes your choice, look at ease of use, weight mobility storage size weight etc, don't think gizmo's are the bees knees, any extra bits and or features cost more in production time and parts.
The basic rule of thumb is that the thing will either be built up to a standard or down to a cost, when you do chose the one you want go for the first one if you can, look on the chit chat forums to see what people think of it.
As for blades as livinglegend says plastic replaceable blades break and need replacing much more often, but steal will need sharpening if you hit items like stones or metal, this will need to be done by someone who can handle a light grinder and or files where as plastic blades are normally of the click and fit design.
The best brands 3 brands are Hayter Honda Stihl but these are expensive.0 -
