Hi, I take sulphasalasine and they have recently added in hydroxychloroquine but since taking it I have been sick, dizzy, suffering from vertigo and can't function with it or drive - has anyone else experienced this? Also my hair seems to be falling out - help! :0(

    Hi clarelouise

think you need to contact the rheummy or gp asap in case (gawd forbid) it's some kind of allergic reaction. :?

if you think it might be that then you probably shouldn't be taking any more of that combination without getting advice.

let us pleezz how you are later?

Thank you both, I have stopped taking the hydroxy now, I still have a bit of nausea but nothing like before and no vertigo/dizziness. I wondered if it was an allergic reaction. I have left a message with rheumatology advice line but haven't heard back yet, will keep you posted. Fed up with all the different side effects :0( luv clare x

I would let your GP/rheummy consultant/ rheummey nurse know that you have stopped taking it and why. Just to be on the safe side.
Hope you are feeling better now.

Hi, Just read this posting, interesting to see your symptons are very similar to some really unpleasant ones I had......... the difference being the culprit in my case was the sulphasalazine! What a relief when I stopped taking it :!:

For me the Hydroxychloroquine is working well along with Methotrexate :) Just shows how different we all are

hi I was taking Hydroxychloroquine with MTX and was told that it was drug that you were less likely to react severely with but I guess i'm in that minority. I gave it quite a lot of time but I had nausea, diarrhoea & vomiting and generally felt unwell. and when i realised that it wasn't just another bug and i was losing lots of weight i couldn't afford to lose I decided to give up on it and then i was fine. I knew it wasn't the MTX as i've been on that for donkey's years.
Discussed it with my rheumy and decided not to replace it for a while as I have had bad luck with anti-inflammitories and other drugs besides MTX which i'm great with.
    hope you get it sorted

Ive been on hydroxychlorequine since Dec 09 after taking it for a couple of weeks i started feeling dizzy & sick but it settled after a few days. Just a point to remember is everyone on this drug getting their eyes tested on a yearly basis as it can cause problems with your retina. Hope you can find a medication that suits you. Best wishes Maria x

Thank you all for your advice, they are a mystery these medications aren't they and we all seem to react differently to them, I have reduced my dose to one a day and seem to be a bit better but still sick and dizzy. I am going back to the rheumy nurse in four weeks now to see how I am progressing. Does anyone else just feel exhausted with it all? I'm working full time and have a four year old and could just sleep all the time! Here's hoping it will settle down eventually x clare x

Not surprised you feel so tired...your body's coping with arther and the meds!

take it easy Clare and phone the rheummy nurse again if you feel any worse.....don't wait for four weeks
