    Hi
I ahve had my fair share of physios and until recently used to come out worse than before i went in.

I am now havng physio from a spcialised physio who is a proper rheumatology physio, she is fab and often answers more questions I have than the rheumatologist does.

I would make sure he / she is specific for arthritis

    Hi margaret,

I don't have a huge experience of physio but what you describe sounds like torture.

I thought that with physio that you could expect some discomfort, aching afterwards but not the level you describe.

My last physio advised me to stop if the pain continued beyond a couple of hours after and start again at a reduced rate of exercises.

Bailey's idea of seeking out a specialist rheumy physio is a good one.

Sorry I'm not much help but wanted to send you a gentle ((hug)) and hope you get relief from the pain you're in.

Oh you poor thing. I am fortunate in that I have only ever had specialised rheumatology physios - apart from on gum-chewing Hungarian or Latvian or Lithuanian or summat, who was more interested in checking out the boys. Can't say I blamed her - better bods than mine! I don't think she's doing you any good, some discomfort yes, then you know it's working, but out and out agony? No. Try to get a transfer. Ask your rheumatology dept. if they have specialist physios you can see. Good luck and take care. Dreamdaisy
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

    Hi Margaret,

    You poor thing.

I don't understand why the physio keeps changing tack ie first acupuncture, then exercises and then traction ...? Why does he/she want you to go back to the docs? It doesn't sound a positive experience at all. Is the physio a trainee? Who referred you and why? (What are you meant to be gaining from physio?)

Sorry to ask so many questions ... !!

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Margaret

I am so sorry to hear about your physio appointments. I have been to both nhs and private physios and I have never been in such pain afterwards. That is totally wrong. If that is the case, the physio is not fully trained to treat certain types of patients. Did you complain to her at all? I know others on here have had physios from hell. Kath,I know, for sure has. 60 push ups, whatever they are, an hour a day sounds rather OTT to say the least. I feel that you must let your GP know what you have told us. There does not seem to be any point in you being tortured by this person anymore. You should be working together with the physio as a team and obviously this is not the case, far from it.
