    Hi Sara :)

Welcome back! There are peeps on here going for a THR, what seems like every week! I hope your first hip op went well. At least you have a good idea of the whole procedure from start to finish.

Just ask any questions you may have and the "experts" will come to your aid!

    :D Look after yourself

You have the experience and knowledge of the first one on which to draw, so focus on the benefits and choose a sooner-rather-than-later date so you can recover in what is laughingly called summer. The quickest recovery I made from an op was in the summer, nothing worse than winter recuperation. You have been there, you have done that, now go get the T shirt! Good luck. Dreamdaisy

    Hiya
We are in the same boat!
I had my first hip replacement at 26(total right)- last year I had it repaired(after 16 years use) and at the end of next month I am due to have a total left hip replacement! Although I only went through it all last August I am still very nervous as having both hips replaced by the time I was 44 was not on my life plan lol! but when I get scared I keep telling myself to look forward to not being in pain for the first time in many years!! The hospital last year were brilliant and my work have been too and as someone else said, hopefully my four weeks recovery at home will be nice and sunny - good luck!

Hi Sarah, I'm in the same boat!! I had a THR at 30 - left hip, now 13 years later I'm having a resurface/replacement on the right - NEXT WEDNESDAY!!! I'm just starting to feel nervous myself - as I know what to expect this time round!! However I joined this forum last month and there are so many positive posts about replacements that I now know it is worth having it done.

My advice to you would be not to do as I did!!! I waited too long to have this op (personal circumstances ....and no time is a good time!!) Then of course I really needed the op and had to wait a bit ... and my pain and mobility got worse and worse.....

Last time I was no weight bearing for so many months and had to hop around with crutches on my good leg - I hope that wont be the case this time as my "good leg" is a replaced leg. But nor can I go on as I am.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Moogiemouse ...
I had my first THR at 30 ... still going strong 13 years later - did yours suddenly wear out or was it a gradual thing? How did they repair it? Which bit wore out? What type was it?

4 Weeks recovery period ....???? Is that all??!!

My op is NEXT WEDNESDAY .... I hoping for some nice weather too whilst I recouperate.

    Hi
I'm 11 weeks post op {THR} and to be perfectly honest I dont feel a lot of difference...in some ways I feel worse. The consultant wantsw to see me at the beginning of June {not far away} and I got a copy letter from the hospital to my doc....it said that I was doing well {6 weeks check up} and he wanted to discuss the 2nd hip replacement when he saw me in June....not sure that I want to discuss it...Sorry for such a negative post
    Love

    Hi Speedalong

I had a total uncemented hip, metal ‘spike’ in femur with a silicon based acetabular cup in my pelvis, unfortunately the silicon cup wore away and started to ‘dissolve’ the top of my femur and my pelvis, also one of the screws holding the cup started to work it’s way loose, this happened over a period of about three years but only gave me real problems for the last years or so! Last year my consultant replaced the worn out acetabular cup with a nice new metal one replaced the ball joint on top of the ‘spike’ and bone grafted my weakened pelvis and femur – the good news was that the ‘spike’ is still good so it was like running (excuse the pun) repairs! Apparently the new left hip I will have is titanium and will last about 35 years! Like you I was non weight bearing the first time for 6 months but apparently that isn’t the case anymore and he thinks about 7-8 weeks on crutches this time. I am an accountant and spend my days mostly sitting down so I was able to go back to the gym (gentle excersise and swimming) and work after four weeks, should be the same for my hip replacement at the end of next month. My consultant gave me my old ceramic ball joint as a souvenir which I keep in my handbag as a ‘lucky’ charm – it also comes in handy for grossing people out in the pub lol!
Good luck with your replacement next week hopefully we will be up and about again soon!

    Hiya

I have had both of mine done. I know its scary but try not to worry as the benefit of having 2 fab hips is well worth while believe me.

I put off my op for ages due to nerves but it really is the best thing i've ever done!

Good luck with the op speedalong. Hopefully soon with your new robo hips (as I like to call them) you will be able to live up to your nickname :)

    All the best
