I get this quite a lot.
They swell up, get very dry, skin splits, and they go very dark
I get this every now and then/ Well I have had 2/3 bouts of it this year so far.
They are not aprticularly painful but they feel very slow / not quite moving as quick as I'd like them too / grip not as strong

    Hi Aquaman

I have a lot of sinovitis (Fluid) around every knuckle joint which makes them very swollen.

Having PA, my hands are very stiff and sore in the mornings, but as I use a computer all day, they tend to get better as the day goes on.

My grip is very impaired and I use grippers to open jars with, and have to remember when I go to lift anything, in case I drop it, or hurt myself. I also have night splints to help my wrist and hand joints rest in a suitable position. NOT sexy...but I find they help.

I hope that helped you a little

    Hi

I get that too for the past three days i've been in agony with the pain in my left shoulder, elbow, wrist, knuckles and fingers when the pain first started my hand stiffened and i couldn't move my fingers, i thought i was having heart attack at first but i have lost strength in hat arm i struggle to open jars bottles etc and have restricted movement. i tried support bandage but at aggrivates it and makes the pain worse, cant take pain killers as they make me sick, even tried taking anti sickness tabs with them but doesnt work.

good luck, hope you sort it soon, take care vikki xx

Hi, my knuckles and finger joints swell sometimes. The other day I woke up with the my hands feeling very stiff and swollen and I had to take my wedding ring off for a while, until the swelling went down. My hands are quite clumsy all the time and the morning is usually the worst time.

Have you seen your GP or rhuemmy? They may suggest splints, which I find helpful, if I wear them when I watch TV or something, but I only wear them for an hour or so as the OT said they can weaken the muscles.

    Love Sue

I had one knuckle / finger that was stubbornly remaining swollen so the Rheumatologist offered me a steroid injection into the joint. I wasn't particularly keen as it sounded sore but she was quite firm about it being the right idea and turned out it was!

Finger is now almost back to normal size and it wasn't actually particularly sore, in fact I barely noticed it!

Glad I had it done now and wish it had been sooner! Might be a possibility for you?

I really dislike getting a finger joint injected, but you're right, it makes such a difference.

aquaman, you might try compression sleeves for individual fingers, or full compression gloves. These help by gently compressing the joints, which supports them, keeps them warm, and reduces fluid in the area. Look around for IMAK gloves on the web. I have a pair and love them for when I'm working long hours on the computer.
