Well its not an ulcer. Its probably weight gain pushing the acid up from stomach. And the funny feeling inside my stomach is a muscle tear which GP could feel. This is also caused by weight gain.
Explains a lot and just glad its not anything worse. However I do have a problem with how to lose the weight as failed so far.

Take care all

    Hi elizabeth

I am glad it's not an ulcer - you so wouldnt have needed that

As for the weight - not an easy one to solve is it as excersise isnt eay nd you have alot on with the kids too :(

My sis has lost 6 and half stone you know!! AMAZING - she did it with portion control and walking I think at least to start with. Thisnk she has OA and its helped a bit - she has had jabs in both ankles since though. Asthma is much improved too.

Wish i had the answer to that one!

    Love

    Hi Elizabeth :D

There is some good advice on the weight thread started by Margaret yesterday or the day before.

It is good news that you do not have an ulcer but other probs have been highlighted unfortunately. Hey, is it you, my lovely, that eats choccy biccies on metho day

When my daughter lost weight on her own but could not lose the last one stone. She joined WW and has been her target weight for 3 years now. She goes every week to be weighed at WW. She now does one heck of serious swimming so is extremely fit and trim, but when she originally started at WW she did not do "exercise".

It was me that eats the choccy bics. Well spotted. i dont know if I can give them up cos of th nausea with the MTX.I have put on 1 and a half stone since op last year when they told me to lose weight. I put 5 lbs on whilst in hospital for that week and half a stone over christmas.
I have had a peep at weightwatchers site and have hydrotherapy lessons starting in May.i was so expecting it to be an ulcer I am pretty shocked but hoping this gives me an extra incentive to lose weight.
Elna i have kept all my old jeans so maybe I should peg a pair up on my wall.

So do I. Its been an ongoing battle for a few years now. When I first saw my Rheummy she had to encourage me to put on weight and I was drinking those build-up drinks. Then it piled on and didnt stop once started on MTX.
Congratulations to your sister. How did she do that? Was it a slimming club or will power!

    Hi Elizabeth

well you sound realy positive about loosing weight. That's probably the best attitude to have.

Couple of my frieds went to tehir first ww class yesterday.

Up here you can get them FREE via your GP. 12 weekd free and if you loose I think you can have another free. Have to see the nurse and she does the paperwork for you.

Tesco and asda have some nice cossies on sale asdas are in cup sizes too and have underwiring

    Hope that helps

    Love

    Hi Elizabeth

Well, it's good news about the ulcer, that's one less worry. Did the doc not suggest anything to help with losing the weight? It's very hard, isn't it? Once it's on, it can be so hard to shift, especially with RA.

Sorry I can't help Elizabeth - if I knew the answer myself, I would share it with you flower.

    Good luck though
    love, Lynn xx

    Hi Lynn,
She was going to tell me but I interrupted her and said I know all what i am supposed to do or not do. It had been a busy morning-had just taken Lucy in to see same GP 20 mins earlier.I am so stressed about her problems and son is being difficult not to mention other son decided to get lost on his way home from school!
It is comfort eating and MTX eating.
I think I will go to a slimming club as I need discipline.
I do beat myself up about it maybe meeting peeps in same boat might help.

    Thankyou Toni,
Any advice is useful. Maybe she was going to offer me free classes before I shut her up!
I am always being told to lose weight and hydrotherapy is free and came via rheummy after I mentioned losing weight.
No harm in trying I suppose

Hi Elizabeth S suffers from acid reflux too and it was horrendous at it's worse ... the GP couldn't control it and the end he had to see a consultant. It is now well controlled (combination of meds and avoiding his trigger foods,) but I do need to try and reduce his meds as he is on mega dose - more than the recommended - hence the need for a consultant. His is worse when he is stressed. And that is something we all have little control over.

I know three people who have really done well with slimming world/weight watchers etc and they look great!! They still follow a watered down version to maintain their weights and it has become a natural way of life. All three of them had been overweight for many years ... and it was a real shock when I met one of them (she doesn't live locally) she looked so different.

    Good luck.

PS I always think it is easier to lose weight in warmer weather ...
    Enjoy the hydro.
I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

Hi, I'm glad its not an ulcer. Quite a few people have acide reflux, it sounds unpleasant. loosing weight is hard, I know, I'm trying to get rid of some at the moment and have lots of good intentions,

You've got good reason to spur you on, it would be nice to feel better. Good luck!

    Thankyou Sue,
I lose weight when unhappy(divorce) and mega flares! But neither is very nice way to lose weight-along with Cris Crohns. So I must be well and happy.
I find I can lose 5 lb at most but then slip into previous bad habits.
Hope all goes well with all your ESA problems. Now that stress would shift a few stones I am sure..

    Hi there
I have been slim and it is much more preferable to not. But as I have got older and not socialising as much there is much less incentive. But I am shocked that it keeps piling on. I suppose as your stomach gets bigger you just keep filling it up with food!
Both WW and slimming world have classes close by. I avoided them before cos I thought all I have to do is cut down(well thats what a bloke would tell you) but its not that easy.
I had acid reflux last night. It is so uncomfortable. Your poor son. What a blessing he has you to care for him.
Now just watch that hospital food. I put on 5lbs after my THR!

    Best wishes

    Hi Elizabeth

Ah, the comfort eating - know that one too well!!

You're right though, maybe being amongst like-minded people will be just the motivation you need. You've had so much to deal with - I really wish you well (if I lived nearer I might just join you)

    Take care,
    Lynn xxxxx

I hope this will motivate me.You can join me online if you want! But it costs.
I just cannot survive MTX without comfort food. Its my reward for puting up with feeling so awful and sick!
