Thought for Today

Hi
I'm starting this thread as a place to post any interesting thoughts, ideas, or observations on life you care to make. They can be serious or silly, however the mood takes you.
So here is my thought for today:
“Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die today.”
This was said by James Dean, the American film star, who died tragically in a car accident when he was young. When I was a teenager, I was madly in love with him, and had his photograph plastered all over my bedroom walls. I was heartbroken when he died. I like the quote from him, and I try to follow his advice.

Hi there,
I am looking at a little scrap of paper I tore out of something when I was feeling pretty beat up. It's a picture of a little ginger kitten looking into a mirror and seeing a reflection of a beautiful lion.
It reads 'What matters most is how you see yourself'
I try and keep this in mind when I feel defeated and try and remember to remain a strong, confident person who will take life by the horns and not let arthur win. Grrr!

One of my favourite lines (quoted elsewhere on a forum) is from Khalil Gibran's The Prophet.
The deeper sorrow carves into your being the more joy you can contain.
That keeps me going. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
"To love someone deeply gives you strength. Being loved by someone deeply gives you courage".
The sayings of Lao Tzu are so prolific, and this is one of my favourites.0 -
"Every road leads to two directions: away from something and towards something"
VA KoskenniemiThe happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.
If you can lay down at night knowing in your heart that you made someone's day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day.0 -

Re James Dean: He still takes my breath away :!: Looking at this link, I can see why I idolised him as a teenager.

Thank you for your replies Arna, DD, Ange and Elna
All very thought-provoking quotes, aren't they :?:
The deeper sorrow carves into your being the more joy you can contain
Sometimes it is difficult to see that at times of sorrow, but would we be able to fully experience joy if we had no sorrow :?:
"To love someone deeply gives you strength. Being loved by someone deeply gives you courage".
I like that one, Ange, and I think it is very true.
'What matters most is how you see yourself'
Yes, I think you have to make the most of yourself, and realise that we all have faults.
"Every road leads to two directions: away from something and towards something"
It's when I stand at the crossroads that the trouble begins :!:0 -
You have both, and it's more positive to view it that way. Well, that's what I think! MArcus Aurelius dod some good stuff too but I can't reach my book on him. Will get a more able person to reach it for me later. I'll be back. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

A saying I was given I think it's a quote from the Bible
Be gentle even when wronged temper and pride subdue when to forgive seems hard ask WHAT WOULD JESUS DO this saying has been with me all my life and on many occasions I have used it.0 -
When things get twisted and out of joint,
Don't get discouraged and quit the game,
Remember a corkscrew never goes straight to the point,
But it gets there just the same.

My thought for today:
“Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter.”
- Mark Twain0 -
"Those are my principles and if you don't like them... well, I have others."
Groucho Marx is supposed to have said that. It always makes me laugh.

Hi Nina
Another Groucho Marks quote is:
Only one man in a thousand is a leader of men -- the other 999 follow women.
I thought you might appreciate that one
0 -
Very wise man that Groucho Marx
Nx0 -
This one's for you, Nina:
"Hug a firefighter and feel warm all over."0 -
Inspired, Joan! And I don't think many FFs would object 8)

Thought not :!:0

I like Mae West.
Interviewer: Miss West, I hear you give men the run-around.
MW: Honey, I got a circular bed.
Never fails to make me smile. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Another Mae West one which makes me smile is:
I used to be Snow White, but I drifted.0 -
I like saying this one to my daughters, especially the eldest 2 who are getting to the age where they want to appear grown up:
"Every time a child says ' I don't believe in fairies' there is a little fairy somewhere that falls down dead"
It's by some scottish playwright or other, I forget now.

What a lovely angel! Smashing pic - is it from that site that everyone uses round here? Livinglegend taught me how to do it, I feel v proud. I'm still hunting for Marcus Aurelius - he wasn't where I thought he was. He's hiding. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

I verify this one is so true.....
Cornwall hangs around the neck of her children like a mill stone.... Daphne Du Maurier
You know Fairies also die if you say thank you when someone says bless you following a sneeze..... I think pos like sheep fairies are just looking for ways to die I always explain to people why I don't say thank you as to not do seems such bad manners x0 -
