Hi Everyone, well, went for my assessment on Friday to see what the physio could do for me,He took all my details as to when the pain starts and how bad the pain can get.I told him everything I could in relation to all he asked, next he done a physical assessment on me to check the movement or lack of movement. After all that he decided on a 6 week course of exercises to help strenghten the joints and increase flexibility,so I came away with a little booklet on osteoarthritis and a diagram of the exercises to try. I also got offered a walking stick to try to take the weight off the hip but I wasnt too sure about that, perhaps need to swallow pride.Has anyone had any similar assessments.

Yes, I was referred to physio by Rheumy, that was the process they took me through, and I came away with exercise leaflets etc. A few weeks of attending to see how things were improving/moving. No walking stick for me at the moment, but am doing all I can to avoid it for as long as possible. Know you don't want to think about it, or admit that you just might find it useful. I know that in all likliehood I'll be there sometime in the future. I see lots of posts here were peeps have gone through this already and have experienced the positive outcomes that the extra physical support gives them, whether its sticks, crutches or whatever. Am trying to focus on those.

Extra support in whatever shape is a boon. I keep my NHS sticks for going out (posh bird that I am) and use crutches the rest of the time. Pride goes before a fall is very true for us lot. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

    Hi Gordy

It sounds as if you had a good assessment. Anything that takes pressure off an aching joint or limb makes life easier. I had 2 walking sticks one for indoors and one for outdoors. Later on I had to have 2 crutches. I don't know too much about hips but I could not stand in one place for any length of time and having the stick for support gave me a bit more freedom to do things - even if it was support for getting out of a chair/out of the car/out of bed etc.
