Hi - it depends on who you are and how your body works i'm afraid!! everyone seems to have different experiences!!! If you do feel sick, as the doctor for anti sickness tablets and take them the day to get them in your system!!

hope you feel better tommorow!! Also, I take it in the evening so that any sickness I can sleep through!! Also, I have a big meal just before, this seems to help loads!! If I feel sick, I eat ginger buiscits!!! Very good for nausa!!!!

    Hi mightymam,

hopefully your nausea will be short lived and you'll adjust to the Mtx over the next few weeks as it gets into your system.

As already said, we are all so different so keep positive  and just take it a day/ week at a time until your up on your right dose.

Aww I hope you are feeling ok hun.

Took my first MTX today as well - 10mg. Feel a bit spaced out and nauseous, had a sleep this afternoon, can't eat much.

My RA is so bad atm I'm hoping the MTX will help although I know it will take a while to kick in.

    Best of luck with it

Hi,I will be starting MTX and Folic Acid this weekend and not looking forward to it. :( The prednisolone has been keeping me pain free for the past 6 weeks but I am now being weaned off it as the consultant doesn't want me to stay on it any longer. It's been wonderful to feel normal again with no pain or stiffness but now I've got sickness and nausea to look forward to with the MTX!! Hope you will soon feel a bit better. Breane.x

Not necessarily Breane. I took oral meth for some time without any nausea whatsoever. Neither did I feel spaced out in any way, shape or form. After a few months of it doing nothing to help my PA I developed a rash on my forearms and they took me off it. After time for it to clear my system and a plethora of other meds which also did nothing, I am now on the injected form. No side effects whatsoever, also with no effect on the PA.

It is extremely toxic stuff, used in much larger doses to treat cancer patients. Not everyone has side effects tho, and I'm one of them Dreamdaisy

I felt pretty rubbish in the few days following my first dose. I took a larger dose last weekend and seem not to be feeling too bad at all. I know it's hard but sometimes you have to ride it out. x

My side effects only came back on the weeks when I increased the dose but must be honest I can't ever remember feeling spaced out ......you're sure you're not taking anything else with your Mtx Mightyman?:lol:

Hopefully the sickness and other will settle down very soon.

    Hi,

I found that the spaced-out, got-to-sleep-NOW-or-I'll-fall-down feeling would come and go. Sometimes I'd take it and have no problems, and other times I'd sleep all day. Later on I figured out that the fatigue was worse on the dose right before my period. Now that I'm doing the injectible, this reaction happens even less often.

Hiya - I was on MTX fr a while and found it helped to take the tablets before I went to bed so I slept through the nausea as taking it in the morning made me too sick to function at work. It did get much better too as my body got used to it. Hope it does for you too x

Thankyou all for your feedback. I feeling normalish today, just really tired. I can cope with any side effects as long as the end result is worth it, fingers crossed. Hope you are feeling ok Chrissy, let me no how you get on.

I'm fine thanks mightymam. I only had the side effects on the Tuesday when I took the MTX been ok since just tired but not sure if that's the RA which is active atm. I'm thinking next week that I might take the MTX after my dinner in the evening and see if that works better for me. Maybe sleep thru the nausea. I was wondering how you were getting on mightymam, glad you are back to normalish hun. Keep in touch.

I have always been told NOT to have meth when I have a sore throat or any pther symptoms of illness. PLEASE check with your rheum nurse or your GP before you take the dose. Dreamdaisy.

Thankyou. I phone my RA Nurse and he said it was ok, I thought exactly the same as you after reading the leaflet i got with mtx. He said it will not be the mtx causing it and maybe my immune system is a bit low due to the steriods i have been on and told me to keep an eye on things.

I think I'm right in saying that it's meth that reduces your immune system - that's the point of it. You are therefore more prone to picking up infections etc and you may not realise how poorly you are because the immune system doesn't fire up to tell you you have a bug! If he's given you the OK well I suppose you have to do it. Don't be surprised tho if you feel worse - I hope it goes OK. DD

I agree with what you are saying and have told my rheum my concerns but i have to trust the experts even though part of me does not want to. my symptoms are not any worse but the side effects off the mtx have kicked right in.

Oh I am so sorry, as if you didn't have enough to cope with . . . I hope it all wears off/goes away soon and you start to feel brighter. DD

I hate the icky feeling I get with mtx. I have been trying anti-sickness pills (sometimes they work, sometimes they don't )
    BUT....
I had forgotten all about GINGER :) I love ginger and reading it here reminded me that is supposed to be good for nausea.
So I'm on a ginger beer hunt (make sure it contains ginger root!)
I have a pack of ginger nuts on me desk, slowly depleting, must be the ginger-nicker fairy :P

Hope your MTX doesnt make you feel bad, mine didn't until I had to up the dose a bit. 3 pills was fine, 6 is bleeh! am supposed to increase to 8, but can't face that.

I'm sorry to hear you are poorly Mightymam, hope you feel better soon.

How did the 2nd dose go? I took my 2nd dose last night after dinner and that has worked better for me. I felt a bit nauseous last night but I've woken up and feel ok. I don't think the side effects are as bad as last week.

    Best wishes
