Hi All,

This may be a silly/unrelated artheritis problem but ill ask anyway.

As you know i have RA and have supsequently got deformed hands well last year and again this year. On my hands i get brown patches its like rough brown skin type thing? I have had this now for 2 springs/summers. The skin affected does not itch doesnt look inflamed if scratches it falls off like my skins shedding like a snake?

Has anyone else had it? Im seeing my rhmy next week and will ask him but though id ask here too :)

Thanks

xx

    Hi madness!

I have small flat brown patches on my hands and face (look more like very very large freckles) and was told it was due to being on Mtx and being exposed to sunlight. Haven't been able to 'shed' them though :? so might not be the same as you describe.

let us know what rheummy says?

    Hi There ,
I have this too , Not sure what it is though but know what you mean about shedding like a snake . I am not diagnosed with RA but do have widespread OA and various other odd symptoms. Sorry cannot help but thought I would let you know you are not alone :)

HI I've noticed a lot of brown patches on the skin thats expossed to the sun, even using sun screen. I don't have ra and don't take the medication you do. I've noticed my hands are looking quite horrible. Mind you, I just put it down to the age spot thing as I'm 55  so it could well be that.

They are probably are sun spots, as the mtx makes us more sensitive to the sun. I have some on my hands and forearms. I occasionally get small patches that peel, but will go away if I don't mess with them. :)

I use a sun block every day to keep them from getting worse. You can get creams that will reportedly fade them, but I don't have the patience - it takes weeks or months to see a difference.
