Hi everyone,
Yesterday I had my app with the ortho surgeon. I am still unsure why I was sent straight to a surgeon after the Gp sent me for xrays of my hands and feet??
Yesterday I had hips knees feet hands and ankles xray`d and I have OA in all those places. I already knew I had it in my spine since my early twenties so they didn`t xray my back.
The Doc I saw was very nice but I felt it was all a bit quick, he didnt really ask me anything but got straight to offering me surgery for my toes (fusion) I declined and went for the physio and possible steroid injections .
I said to him that my main and worse pain is in my hip area and down my legs , this is excruciating in the mornings and has plagued me for about four years . He looked again at the xrays felt my back , poked around then said OH! you have sacroillitis . It was a ureka moment for me  Just to give it a name is a relief.
What do you think about seeing a rheumy for this? Would it be more appropriate?

    Hi Fay,

sorry to hear you have OA in so many joints...but by the sound of things it confirmed what you already knew. :(

the sacroiliitis is different though?...is that caused by inflammatory arther (one of the sero-negative arthers) rather than OA?

I think OA peeps don't usually get referred to rheummys but those with any of the inflammatory arthers can be.......so speak to your doc about it and see what he thinks.

Did the ortho say anything about the sacroiliitis? what treatments or any meds that might help?

glad for you that at least you were given a name for the back pain.

Thank Iris , I didnt know sacroillitis was an inflam thing but of course I should have from the name!! I will def see my Gp about it .
He said he could do injections into the SI joints ouch!! I had acupuncture there a few years ago and nearly hit the roof with the pain, the girl said OH you must have a very low pain threshold , I wanted to punch her

No problem reading your reply Fay :D and I think you showed great restraint not punching that nurse.:lol::lol:

heaven help us all if the professionals don't understand what the pain of arther is that we have had to cope with!

take care Fay and good luck with your next appointment.
