I have what appears to be thread veins but as far as symptoms go this does add up as they are itchy and according to information on net they are supposed to be unsightly, nothing else. I do have eczema but itching worse around the sites of thread veins. I have been using the cream I got my eczema but this has made little difference. It is driving me so mad I put my tub of cream in fridge to cool so I can get a little relief. I have had to take from swimming as it was making it worse. Got Doc appointment next Thursday but getting really annoyed.

Thread veins do not itch. If your eczema cream isn't working the chances are it isn't eczema. Try aqueous cream - you can use it as soap and moisturiser and it doesn't irritate. This is an ongoing thing isn't it? I would have contacted my doctor by now - it could be an allergic reaction, an infection of some sort, a general dermatitis - he's the one with the knowledge! I have itchy skin quite a lot, it drives me mad and I can make myself really sore. The one and only cream that I have found works for this is E45 Itchy skin relief cream - its really good, try it :D xx

    Hi

OH has atopic eczema and if his cream doesn't work he takes an antihistamine. I'm not sure what meds you're on so ask before taking them. Co meds tend to make us itch.

hello, i have extremely bad psoriasis and feel like i have graduated from itchy school....LOL

try diprobase, or doublebase - it burns ever so slightly after putting it on (straight after a bath), and the heat is soothing

    i hope this helps

I've found that eliminating products with artificial fragrances can be a big help. That means anything that comes in contact with your skin - lotions, soaps, creams, dishwashing liquid, and clothing detergent - should be fragrance free.

Over here in the U.S. I get a product called Cetaphil, which is a gentle, non-soap, non-irritating cleanser. It's a thick liquid you can use on your face or anywhere else. It doesn't foam up, so it won't strip your skin of healthy oils. Maybe you can find something like that over there. :)

Ask your Dr to check if any medications you are on can cause itching as well. Some opiates can do it to me. Morphine and pethadine always make my nose itch which is apparently quite common!

I agree that the E45 soap is great.

Hi, I don't know if this is of any interest to you but, at the pain clinic this week they told us about different kinds of pain caused by the same thing. Itching, was something they mentioned. Sometimes, when the nerves are overworked with pains the pain comes out as an itch using a different pathway. Quite a few of us had experienced the itches. Personally it makes sense for the type of pain I get, but yours may well be totally different. I just thought I'd share that with you! :)

    Hi tjc,

I don't know what form of arthritis you have but my sister has Lupus and she has a similar rash and the brownish mark across her nose and cheeks ....it's one of the main symptoms. Please check with your GP or Rheumy as you'll be on the wrong meds if it is Lupus..... and meanwhile if there is any sunshine stay out of it as this makes the rash even more itchy.

Hope I've not worried you but best be on the safeside and get it checked asap.

Now that you mention it, I remember back when I was first diagnosed at age 5, that I had brown, kind of scaly pigmentation on my arms. It eventually went away as my treatment for RA progressed.

    Hi Carol,

I think your scaly pigmentation is different to this. It's when the pigmentation is across your nose and/or cheeks that it could be Lupus - it's known as the butterfly rash. I don't think the rash disappears either it can lighten and darken but never goes away.

Sorry tjc, not had this :( ......maybe it's just your meds upsetting you. Actually thinking about it I did have a body rash many years ago when I was on Sulphasalazine and Voltarol, but it didn't itch and they stopped all my meds immediately.

I'm glad you've phoned your Rheumy nurse and have been able to get in to see her. You do need this sorting out - being itchy and in pain is miserable, as I said before don't forget to let us know what she says.

    Good luck for Monday.

    Hi

Good luck TJC with your call to the Rheum nurse. I have a bright red rash sort of blotches with tiny red pin size spots on the top part of my chest, I have had it for about two months and cant get rid of it. Daughter is getting married next week and the dress I bought ages ago before this rash appeared is low cut so other than cover it up with makeup I am really stuck. I have done everything to get rid of it, from just washing the area with just luke warm water (no soap) to using clearasil mild wash. I have rubbed in E45 cream to no avail Saw my GP couple of weeks after it appeared and he gave me antihistamine tablets which made me drowsy but didnt clear the rash. Saw another Gp a couple of weeks later, he gave me a steroid cream that did no good either. When my appt with Rheum nurse came around she said stop the steroid cream and use clearasil cream as it reduces redness, well its reduced it a bit after using it for two weeks but its still there. Anyone got any ideas I will try anything to get rid of it before the wedding. I have RA and take methotrexate and leflunomide.

    Thanks

    Lizzie

It could be caused by just about anything! It could be your washing powder, a food allergy or perfume. I have sensitive skin and I find that one of the worst things for me is E45, I loathe the stuff - makes any itches worse. I use aqueous cream or baby oil with added aloe vera - I find that soothing. Sorry I can't be of more help. Dreamdaisy

I have no idea what that is - today is Monday and I think you said you would be contacting someone - please let us know how you get on. The only thing I can think of is a psoriasis-type rash - that can cover large areas. Thinking of you, tjc123. DD
