I have been wondering all year when they will start rehearsals for the school play as the headteacher has been talking about it for some time. They did a wonderful open air play of a Midsummer Night's Dream a few years ago and he said he wanted to do one with the current Year 6s (of which my eldest is a member).

They are doing Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat - how, I don't know, because they only have about 8 weeks in which to do everything - scenery, costumes, lines etc - they haven't made a start yet.

The "auditions" are this week. Now naturally, being my daughter, Ellen wants a BIG part in which she is on show for most of the time. I've told her she'll make a great Joseph but she says another boy in her class is going for it and she doesn't want there to be ill feeling. Bless her. But I've told her to go for it if she wants to, the teacher will pick the best person for the part. I actually think that, deep down, she wants a girly role, but the main roles are male, aren't they?

But anyway, ho hum, we shall wait and see. She is a very tall girl, very confident and clear speaking, so I think she has a good chance. Otherwise we may have tears - she is 11 years old and the hormones are starting to kick in

    Hi Nina

This was Lucy this time last year. they did Oliver.

They dont even start till after the SATs do they?

I was a mummy helper and by the eck did I get good at sewing and painting and safety pinning!!

Lucy did not get a major part at all despite me helping (now you would have thought.... )

Having said that i loved every minute and was so very very proud of her and all the kids...

In fact i am thinking about offering to help again.....next doors little girl is in year6....

    What do you think?

    Hi Toni,

If you love doing it, then I would say go ahead. I don't tend to help with the actual plays but am quite happy to ferry kids about to and from home etc. I'm not that good with kids other than my own :)

I think she'll find out today, so we'll either be happy or sad - chocolate I think is in order whatever the outcome. I know she'll be disappointed if she doesn't get a lead role, but she'll do her best whatever she gets.

Potiphers wife has a good part. She might have to be a bit flouncy a do a bit of dancing and flirting. Do you think hubby will approve.

My son did this last year. Sadly i missed it as I was having my THR but I got to see the Video of it recently.

Apart from Joseph who has loads to do and say most of the other parts were of equal length.
When I did Joseph i was a thin cow!

    Hi Nina

Having met Ellen, I can imagine that she will have a good chance of getting one of the main parts. She is a teacher's dream pupil, confident, intelligent, self-motivated, and altogether a lovely girl.

It amazes me that the teachers have got the energy to produce a play at the end of the school year, when I know from experience how exhausted everyone feels. However, it is a good way of keeping Year6 interested until they leave, so the teachers must think it is worth the effort.
