Hi, good luck for Monday I hope everything goes well for you. I always say, "tell it as you see it" in otherwords if your telling the truth then theres no need to worry. Easier said than done, I know.
    Best of luck

Hello, good luck when you see the Doctor. As the others say, tell him everything as it is without any glossing over facts. Thats what they need to hear and understand. Its hard, as I think, we all like people to see we can cope, but thats not the best thing for any of you! Try not to worry too much but, if you are worried and upset, then let the doctor know you are, as thats also what they need to see. :) Good Luck. Lots of love Sue xxx

Good luck from me too.

It's always a bit nerve racking seeing a doc you haven't met but hopefully all will go well for you and that you then get DLA.

don't minimise how you are or how arther affects you (on a bad day) and you won't go too far wrong.

oh i do that thats for sure i found today that getting up from the floor on your knees was very difficult and had to pull my self up using the banister post that i was kneeling by and it was really hard work it will be along time till i do that again.

Kneeling is vastly over-rated as an occupation - I haven't done it since 2001. I get others to do any kneeling I need, much more practical!

Don't get flustered or rattled. Make some notes about how the arthritis affects you both physically and emotionally and, if possible, have someone there with you for support. We will be thinking of you - post as soon as he's gone with an update. Dreamdaisy

Hoping all goes well today, with the DLA Drs visit. Let us know how you get on.
I was in a total state when the DLA Dr came to see me, but he was ok. I had loads of info, like Drs letters and things, from the year dot, to the present day, lists of medicines, so he did a lot of copying of notes, asked to see me walking, listened to my chest, asked me to bend, move my head left and right, up and down etc, which I couldnt do, to which he said, don't worry. He said "you have been ill a long time." He wasnt there all that long and my OH was on hand, just in case. XXX Bubbles.

hello no it wasnt the scary one f035.gif he just asked me question and put down on the form what i said, he came on time and didnt leave till about 12.40

he examined my knees and thought they looked knocked kneed dont know what he meant about that, asked me to walk with him out side and done my blood pressure and listened to my chest and apart from all the writing he did on a white DWP form that was that so i,m glad thats over and done with i suppose i just have to wait and see what happens now.

i hope or wish at least i will get the low rate of both i can now only wait and see what drops through the letter box

    Hi

Well you've done all you can now.

Glad it wasn't the scary man :)

As you say - now you have to wait and hope for the best. Did he give you any indication as to time scale?

    Love

Toni (who is glad it is over with) xx

I've always understood knock-kneed to mean that both knee caps face inward, towards each other, rather than facing front. This can affect walking and is one reason why some people should have poroper orthotic supports in their shoes. My right knee turns in, but with a support faces front and is more comfortable.

I'm glad it went well - he stayed a while didn't he? I hope you got in all the points you needed to make and good luck with the whole process - I hope you hear quite soon, but remember these things take time! DD

Do we as a leading society need to put ill people through these 'trial by forms' and allow them to be judged by strangers and given a rating as to whether we can help them or not?

Seems something wrong with this, doesn't there?

When I'm in charge of the world......... hhhmmmm, soapbox moment, sorry.

totally agree with you airwave there is something inherently wrong with a system that refuses to take the word of the patients GP or consultant, somebody who knows that person a damned sight better than a complete stranger with a bureaucratic form to fill in whilst put that same person through a totally uncalled for medical and causing needless pain and discomfort.

I'm that pissed (excuse language) off with this subject i've actually written to my MP asking the very same questions,so far all i've had is a letter from him telling me he referring my email higher up (probably Iain Duncan Smith,God help us all!).

I cannot agree more, it is wrong on so many levels. I won't go on and on about my appeal, suffice to say it has dragged on now for over a year. They tell you to inform them of any changes in health care, or care needs, which I have done, which the Drs have done, only for them to completely ignore these changes and increases in care requirement. I have had Drs come to the house, have more letters from GP's and Consultants than you can shake a stick at, even they are at a loss as there is nothing else they can say. So, I am fully prepared to go in front of the panel if I have to, even though all my Drs have told the DLA that this is contrary to their recommendation and is having a direct impact on my medical outlook.
So, yes, for those of us who are genuinely ill, cannot move about without risk of falls, have constant pain, multiple medical problems, it is disgusting that they do not listen and force us to go through hoops.
That is my rant over, people know I am battling them and will fight tooth and nail. Right, deep breath and relaaaaaaaaaaaax.

Has anyone noticed that since Gordon and his henchmen toddled off no-one has been telling us what to do? New Labour interfered on EVERY LEVEL with our lives, assuming that we are all equally incapable of independent thought and action. We were being told what to do in case of hot weather, cold weather, where we could smoke, where we couldn't, what to do if we caught flu etc etc.

New Labour adored beaurocracy and that is what only49 experienced yesterday - NL beaurocracy at its best. No, the patient's word won't do because the patient does not understand his/her condition. No, the word of the patient's doctors will not do because they do not know him/her sufficiently. No, the word of the patient's family will not do because they have no first-hand experience of the patient's difficulties. Grrrrrrrrr.

I suppose some degree of independent assessment is required to try to cut out the fakers - but they didn't do a good job of that, did they? Remember the football referee who claimed he couldn't walk? And there was a Welsh councillor too - or was that the same one?

The new alliance will have to strip out the layers of officialdom that NL created in order to save money. We will no longer be told what to do, we will be left to get on with it (hurrah!) and I suspect services will improve too. DD
