Bloods Mystery

I have been feelling for some time that humira is failing so I had some bloods done to prove it. My hands are swollen and i can't get my wedding ring on. My left ankle is 10.5" in circumference, but my right 13.5" - that is some difference. I am generally puffy all over and have put on about half a stone despite my dietary deprivations. Got the blood results yesterday, ESA and CRP are 1 and 5 (or the other way round!). I don't understand. Pain levels are still higher than normal, and constant pain in lots of new-ish places isn't helping. One can see the swelling on my ankle and hands, so why hasn't it registered? I guess, therefore, it's water retention. Does anyone know if that is a side effect of any meds? I can't be bothered to read thro all the little info sheets at the mo! Your lazy poster, Dreamdaisy.

PS Why do some thread titles have little pink pages next to them and others don't? Are you out there, livinglegend, you fount of all technical knowledge?

    Hi DD,

It might be water retention and well it can be a side effect of a lot of junk we have to take. Is it a side effect of preds? I seem to remember something about that but hey just get it checked out and also that your tests are not showing too low? I don't know what is 'normal' mine came up in red and I was told nothing to worry about so now no longer ask or even look..... may not be the right way though

The pain.... now on preds my pain went into hyper-drive and I got muscle waisting and pain in the long bones so again maybe get it checked out. I didn't do well on them at all actually though they are the only thing that ever got the crohn's back in its box. A ((( ))) and just talk to your rumo nurse .... please..... Cris who can't help but distrust preds  x

Lynn please make mine a double :lol: xx

Thank you everyone, I think I'll ask the nurse at my GP surgery tomorrow as she syringes my right ear - blocked solid, everything whistling and humming, it's horrible! Your thoughts are all good ones, so we'll see. DD

Hi DD - I too have had blood results in the past which didn't tie in with what was happening pain wise. Sometimes I was in alot of pain and the bloods didn't show the extent of the inflammation - Then, next time they were sky high but the pain was under control. Don't know if there is some sort of "time lag". About the swelling though - I have become rather too familiar with Humira side effects over the past year and oedema is listed as a common side effect. Also listed is "heart problems that can cause shortness of breath or ankle swelling" but I guess that's not likely as your hands are swollen too. (Just thinking I might apply for the next series of Mastermind with my speciallist subject being "side effects of Humira"). Tilly x

I'm off to read that leaflet - it seems odd that the swelling is so lop-sided but hell, the PA started that way so why not? Clothes that fitted last week are so tight now - I want to live in my nightie! DD

Hi DD - happy reading (not) and really hope it's not a side effect (not that the docs will admit to it anyway). Yours cynically, Tilly x

Never a nerd around when you need one. n045.gif

The arrow and little pages on the left of the list of thread titles are those that you haven't read since they were last posted or updated. It means that you don't have to open all the threads to see if anyone has posted a new reply or not. After you read a thread then the little page should disappear.

PS. Sorry Lynn, didn't notice your reply above as I am being a bit dozy today.n030.gif

The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.

If you can lay down at night knowing in your heart that you made someone's day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day.
