Hi
Just got back form my orthopaedic appointment and have been told i'll be having an operation on my knee and am now officially on the waiting list.
He is basically going to be breaking the top of my shin bone and moving it over, screwing it back on and putting the tendon somewhere else. I researched it before and think it is called an osteotomy, - Anyone had this or know any info on it????

OMG Bailey!!!!
I know nothing just want to say I hope you are ok.
I'm sure they know what they are doing and they wouldnt have suggested it if it wasn't a good idea.
You agreed yet? Or are you thinking about it?
If it is going ahead - how soon will it be?
Take care
Toni xx(in shock too)

Hi
When I went last time, he told me about it and then sent me for aother MRI. I have tried the synvisc injections, physio and already had an arthroscopy so this would be the next step as I am too young for a TKR. (turned 30 on tuesday)
I am officially on the waiting list. Not sure what the waiting time is. Got to be worth a try. He said my other knee looks the same but i am thinking that this is because I am over compensating with it. I had surgery on my ankle about 7 years ago and they said the other might need doing but have been ok since i got the one fixed, so fingers crossed.0 -
Oh well Bailey sounds as though you've been through all teh options then.
I think you will be having it
I take it he gave you no indication as to how soon?
Maybe the sooner the better eh?
I think I am very pleased that you will be getting something done. I guess if it goes ok the other may need doing at some point too?
Love

Well, when I saw him he actually said that the scan was fine, but then he aid it isnt anything inside the knee causing the probem it is the way the one comes out of the hip and so the knee is facing inwards and causing pressure inside the knee. He sat me on the bed and put my feet together and my knee actually face inwards a lot. He said the scan showed up ok, apart from a bit of wear and tear but then he sat me on the bed and held both legds and told me they had grown wrong!?!? So, not sure if i will need the other done, if i do then hope fully not for a long time because it isnt giving me many problems at the moment.0

Hi Bailey
Not heard of this one .....but if it helps surely it has to be good. I suppose most ops sound horrific ...sometimes it's best not knowing what they do to you.
Hope you're on the list long enough to get your head round it and not long so you're in less pain for a shorter time

Haven't got a clue sweetie but if it's going to help it has to be a Good Thing. (God, wish I was thirty again - it was the best year of my life.) DreamdaisyHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Bailey,
I wonder if that will delay a full replacement for a while maybe? I don't know but it sounds hopeful that it will help. Someone else will know or the helplines will know and they are very nice as well so maybe email or phone then could help? Good luck anyway and keep us informed please. Luv Cris x0 -
yes from what i have researched this operation delays having a TKR for approximately 10 years. I guess it would depend on how i treat it afterwards.
Not sure if it a relatively new thing? NEver heard of it before i had this.0
