Chrisov’s Chatterings
Celebration is in the cold and gloomy Norfolk air at the moment. An anticipatory feel of festivity has been hanging above the county and slightly beyond for a while now and at last there is cause for some form of merriment. What has induced these feelings, you might be wondering as you read my latest chatterings from Norfolk. No it is not anything to do with such a minor event as the general election, although I expect some are celebrating about that event now.
This commemoration has nothing to do with some of the usual events around this neck of the woods which cause such anticipatory merriment. These include the excitement that annually prevails over who has won the conker competition or whose hanging basket has gained first prize in the local heat of Britain in bloom. In the past some baskets have been interfered with by those so desperate to win and no doubt conkers have been over cooked in the oven. However both the conkering and the baskets have now been banned by our officious council because of ealth and safety reasons. Conker trees have been deemed dangerous and chopped down and de-conkered and hanging baskets have been debarred in case they fall on someone and give then a bad head. Other excitement at the moment revolves around who is the person not claiming a winning lottery ticket for £ 146.87 in the county. Other excitement includes the fact that two ships have berthed in the multi-million Great Yarmouth outer harbour in the last three months and another fishing boat has been resurrected and added to the one boat remaining in not so great Yarmouth.
Of course these things are worth a cheer in themselves but the celebration I am talking about is, wait for it, (I can hear many groans) has a sporting connection and yet more groans, it is connected to football. Before I go into any more exciting details I would like to offer commiserations to anyone out there (especially fans of a team in blue and white) whose teams have not given them any reason at all to celebrate, let alone a record number of draws in one season.
Firstly all things yellow and green in the land of the canary have cause to celebrate as the Canaries, Norwich City Football Club have won promotion at the first time of asking back to the Championship from League One or the third division of English football. Debate continues as to what form of celebration should occur. The last time the club had something to party about was when they went up to the Premiership. Then there was an open top bus and a civic reception at the little Kremlin (City Hall) and some 50,000 thronged the streets so something along the same lines should suffice. Some sceptics have said we should not be celebrating promotion from the ‘third division’ but hey we have only won seven such winning cups in the clubs 118 year old history so lets party on down.
Other local footie teams have cause to party as well. Great Yarmouth were crowned champions and had their own civic celebrations. Wroxham won through to a Cup Final at Wembley and ironically this year will be the last time that this final is played at the national stadium but unfortunately the Yachtsmen lost to Whitley Bay but they have done well considering they are a village team. Kings Lynn football club has also been reformed after going into administration so that is a cause to be happy. From over the border and from North Suffolk Lowestoft Town have also been celebrating as they have also won promotion. Although Lowestoft is in another county it is still very much part of Norfolk as it is only 29 miles from the Big City of Norwich and is much further away from Ipswich the little market town which is the capital of Suffolk. I will be celebrating as my blood is yellow and green and no doubt Queen Delia will also be on a bender of fruit juice and caviar and soft boiled eggs as well. Here’s to the next success and the Canaries getting back to the higher perch where they belong which is the wobbly perch of the Premiership.

Ah yes, the elegant, gracious and patronising St Deels.Where are ya? Where are ya? she crooned.
Indeed, felicitations are due and are expressed here. Well done. After a poor start you made it in triumphant style and good for Norwich City FC.
It has been a dull season for the Tractor Boys and we look forward to playing you again next season. I think we missed the challenge of overcoming the little tweety birds, so we couldn't be bothered to make an effort for our Roy - things will change.
I love Norfolk, it's best in the depths of winter. Preferred places are Blakeney, Burnham Overy Staithe, Brancaster and Holt. I would love to live in Holt. The Husband cannot countenance such a thing, which is a shame. I dislike Cromer with a frightening intensity. DreamdaisyHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Hi Chrisov
You know I was wondering where you were only this morning

Well done Norwcih
Well done Chrisov

Hi Chrisov
I know nothing about football, but I enjoyed reading your post anyway. It's good to see your name on the forum.
I hope you are well. How is your little grandson? Not so little now, I guess.

Hi DD
No I'm in Cornwall but have supported Ipswich all my life .
Do you live far from Portman Road?

Football!, well I'm a rugby man meslf at least all the violence is on the pitch!., My sister follows it and is totally delusional about Englands chances.0

I live within hearing distance when Town score. Been a quiet season this year. Given the choice I'm really a rugby girl. The men are so much more manly. Pwhoar! Cissies play footie, they fall over at the lightest touch and go for Oscars when trying to cheat their way to a free kick. Roy Keane's a %£**^$. Saw him buying a chinese takeaway in Aldeburgh last November. Nice Merc tho. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi all and to dreamdaisy I am also looking forward to the derby games and as you say you live near P road but I dont expect yopu heard many cheers this season by goals scored he he btw I think Delia might have been a bit tipsy that night I cant beieve Keano was buying chips in Aldeburgh I like Aldeburgh and Southwold my mum was born in Suffolk Yes Norfolk and thoise places you refered to are nice but can I ask why do you not like Cromer ???
As for what the Canaries have won tchavev not as much compared to the likes of Chelsea ManU but weve won the league cup twice and hav ehad promotions and been champions of lower leagues then the current Premiership 5 times so this seasons made it 8 celebrations.0 -
Hi yes John Bond was great manager he was known for his big coats and his cigars and for saying the football was magic and the little fellow was magic0
-
Hi sarahrockfan have you changed your name back from dreamcatcher hope you are ok whats the weather like in Cornwall????0
-
Why do I not like Cromer? I find it a gloomy and run-down place. There is that huge hotel above the pier that has really seen much better days. There are some beautiful terraces of large, three or four storey houses which are now split into HMOs and don't look better for it. Cromer takes you back to the fifties, a truly horrible decade. The whole place has a seedy feel to it. I visit every time we go to Norfolk (so once or twice a year for fifteen years) but it hasn't improved, or my reaction to it hasn't improved. I have a friend who loves it though - it's a Marmite place!
Sheringham used to be lovely but that too is changing. I suppose all places wax and wane, 'tis the nature of the world. I would like to live in Norfolk tho - deep in the countryside between Blakeney and Holt would suit me down to the ground. Where are you based, Chrisov? DreamdaisyHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Hi dreamdaisy I am now in great Yarmouth now that is seedy in places and has been for yonks they might put the great back into it one fineday.
I know the hotel you mean a bit like the cafe on the corner where you go down the slope the Beeb were asking people in the late nineties if they thought Cromer was dead and even back then they got a negative response I like Blakeney and its harbour and the point and Holt is very pretty and charmingly relaxed place to live0 -
Hi Chrisov
I have many fond memories of Norfolk. I was brought up in industrial South Yorkshire, but when my sister went to college in Norwich when I was 15, I used to go to visit her there. It seemed like a different country to me at that age, and I loved it from the start. I took my children back there when they were young, and we had some lovely holidays on the north Norflok coast. I envy you living in such a nice part of the country.

Hi noeltone,
Nope always been sarahrockfan.
The weather isnt that good down here quite cloudy and cold .
Whats it like up your end?noeltone wrote:Hi sarahrockfan have you changed your name back from dreamcatcher hope you are ok whats the weather like in Cornwall????0 -
Good evening, Noeltone. When I married The Husband in July 1997 we had our first honeymoon in Blakeney, three days and four nights at the Blakeney Hotel. Our room was the one above the residents' lounge with a fabulous view out over the water. Our second honeymoon was two months later and two weeks longer - Venice and Lake Garda. Loved Venice but overall I would rather spend two weeks in Blakeney!
I haven't been to Great Yarmouth in years - nearly twenty in fact. I have no great desire to go - I am not especially fond of the English sea-side, with the exception of Sidmouth. That is a lovely, lovely town and I very much hope to go back there. The Husband and I went there three years ago now, in November/December. We stayed in a wonderful house in Beer, right up on the cliff top. It had staggering views down into the little town and out to sea. On a clear day we could see Portland Bill. At night it was like looking at fairyland, with all the lights twinkling down below. Our bedroom was at seagull-flying height, staggeringly big birds whizzing past the windows! I hope that you are tolerably well today and that you have passed a pleasant weekend. DreamdaisyHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -

Your reply made me laugh. I have a friend who introduces his wife as 'The current Mrs Beazley.' How long before you find yourself a new OH then?! I met The Husband three months after marrying The Wrong Man. (married Oct 87, met Jan 88. Shocking.)
We went our separate ways last night - I did a girls' night in, he did a boys' night out. Missed him v v badly, silly but true, so very lovely to get home this morning and see him again. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Chrisov, I have heard on the local news that an application to do donkey rides on the beach at Cromer has been turned down by the council as it wouldn't give a good impression of the place. I had to laugh! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0
