Hi,I started on a 15mg dose of MTX at 7.30 last night and I was wondering how quickly any side effects such as sickness and nausea kicks in. :( I guess it may vary from person to person. Also, today I have to take 15mg Folic Acid but do I take it at 7.30 tonight like I did with the MTX yesterday and do you take it with food. There was nothing about this on the instruction leaflet, infact,I wasn't given an instruction leaflet with the MTX either.Any advice will be appreciated.Breane.x

    Breane,

I have my mtx at around mid afternoon then take the colic acid first thing in the morning. So maybe take it at lunchtime.
Hope that's been a little helpful

Hi - you might be lucky and not get side affects!!!! I think if you have not felt anything by now then you may be lucky - but if you do get nausa - ask for anti sickness tablets and take them a day or so before the tablets so it gets into your system!!!! I do my jab on friday eve and then take folic acid next morning - and then every morning but Fridays!!!! hope this helps!!!! but like you said, everyone is different so it is a bit of trial and error!! Good luck. I also make sure I have a decent meal before taking methx, this seems to help a lot!!

I took 1st dose of MTX (10mg) at 8.15am on Tuesday and the side effects kicked in at about 11.15am. Nausea lasted most of the day for me. But felt ok following day. Took folic acid (5mg) 8.15am following day.

This week I am going to take the MTX after my evening meal and hopefully will sleep thru nausea.

I hope you get on ok. Let us know how it goes.

I take MTX mid evening on Thursday with food and Folic Acid 24 hours later on Friday mid evening ditto. That way I sleep through the worst of it. k025.gif Feel tired and nauseous from Thurs evening until Saturday midday.

Many people don't get side effects, but some do. Sometimes worse than others, it depends.

hi, am surprised you didn't get an instruction leaflet with the mtx. I would ask for one as there are a few things you should know e.g. not to eat pate or soft unpasteurized cheeses and what to look out for in terms of side effects.

I take the fa at night s well cus that also makes me feel quite sick as well. Its fairly instant but the gp recons it might help with the wished feeling so.... Good luck and I so hoe you find it works for you. Cris x

hi Lynn, how are you? It's only pate and soft cheeses. I assume because your immune system is lowered you are more vulnerable to listeria. Can't think of any other reason. I'm surprised you don't know about it as my rheumy nurse told me and it is also on my various leaflets/info sheets.

I never knew that about the food! I read the leaflet and it didn't say a thing.

I didn't know about mouldy cheeses, was told soft ones (is Stilton regarded as a soft cheese? Listeria worry is usually unpasteurized soft cheese in any case, isn't it?) Anyway, I was halfway sampling my way around the cheese stalls of Borough Market before I remembered I wasn't supposed to eat half of them. Nothing happened. I love cheese!

Lynn, I'm ok ish. Got probs with high liver results which is worrying me slightly. Am off painkillers at the moment and no alcohol to try and bring them down, not that I drink much in any case so not really a hardship. Apart from that, trying to get on with things.
