Just letting you good folks know that i'm starting Humira,Thursday 12.30 after what seems a very long wait. Getting abit nervous now what with all i've read about side effects etc and Gill ain't happy whatsoever about my going on it but accepts (slighty) that its my decision. i've willing to try anything i've had enough of sleepless nights, exhaustion, pain, stiffness yadayada you all know the drill methinks.
Re Gill or Gillian her consultant has conceded defeat in that he can't straighten her right leg tkr that was done last August and has put her on his list for a revision. Not a happy chappy bearing in mind she's just turned 50 on high levels of warfarin for life and very susceptable to infection (she got a bad one in her leg around the tkr last time, he's warned her next time could be alot worse) She's as the same mind as me as she feels she can not go on the way she is living, on crutches and not being able to help me. As i've said in previous threads hardly a day goes by she starts crying as its breaking her heart watching me struggle and losing my temper with frustration sorry to say.
Basically i believe we are in a make or break situation ie humira works for me and Gill's tkr's work (still has the left knee to sort) or we in the mire so to speak, trying to stay optimistic not easy mind.

thanks for your thoughts on thursday, however what i did neglect to mention is that constant nagging thought humira probably will not work,oh yea it may stop any further damage but from my results of my ct scans, mri's etc i can't help but feel it may be too little too late and will do little or anything for the pain and stiffness but we'll find out soon enough. As the saying goes watch this space0 -
Hi Fester
They have to tell you all the side affects, it dosnt mean you will get any, some people get none at all ,I suppose you have to give it a try.
I am so sorry that your OH knee replacement has not gone well, I do hope they can help her, my brother in law had his second knee replacement, the first one wasn't very good, but he is doing really well with this one.
Dont forget we are always here when you want to talk, or even rant.
You take care

Hi Fester,
You sound like me 5 months ago! I was ready to walk into the sea!
I'm in a pretty bad way - no total replacements, no ops ... have put them on the back burner for various reasons. Hands don't want to do what I want .. fingers have a mind of their own and ankles are shot to pieces. The pain is sometimes .... exquisite!
Then I started on Humira .... oh, yes, I've read all the guff and frightened myself to death. Only thing I can say to you is 'clear your mind - listen to your body and say to yourself 'this is going to work'.
It's worked a treat - I feel better than I have done for yonks. Had a couple of little patches at injection site the first two times but they went away quickly. I even got myself up a flight of stairs .. haven't done that for years. Go for it!
Good luck on Thursday. Let's know how you get on.

Hi fetser good luck for thursday I've had ANTI-tnf and it didn't work for me but I do know someone who's on it and has responded well to it that much her docters are going to straighten her toes and I think she is having tkr later.
Just remember they can take a while to work. Take care.

Hello fester. I have been on humira for just over ten months and it has been very effective in reducing inflammation levels, but not the pain. I have been far more mobile and I have not had any side-effects whatsoever. I hope you are able to do your own injections because there are some techniques involved that nursing staff may not be aware of (or wiling to try).
It stings badly on going in, and sometimes for a while afterwards too but there are things you can do to minimise this if you are in charge.
I repeat again: I have enjoyed improved mobility and no side effects (I have PA). Good luck on Thursday. DreamdaisyHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -

Hi Fester
All the best for Thursday. Keep positive, peeps on here seem to rate humira. I am very sorry to hear about Gill's TKR problems. Let's hope that a revision works for her. I do hope the humira works for you and that will make both you and Gill feel a little happier.

Hi Fester
Good luck. It was the best thing I ever did. I havent had any side efects that I am aware of.
Mine worked from the very first injection and I am so grateful.I still have damaged joints and some aches and pains but nothing like I used to put up with.
The injection doesnt hurt me but then I have a lovely roll of fat to cushion the blow.
I really, really hope it works as well for you.

Good morning fester - today's the day! I hope it goes well and that you start to feel the benefits soon. Are you a fortnight or weekly person? I hope you will be able to do it for yourself - it's more convenient that way. Thinking of you. DreamdaisyHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Fester,
just adding my good lucks to you both. Side effects very often don't get you so hopefully you will be lucky and get a lot of benefit as well.
I do hope Gill's reversal goes well and sorts it all out. You both take care Cris x0 -
I'm back, tired but ok. it did'nt help that for some reason my medicar was'nt booked so rushing to get a taxi to pick me up but nevermind.
Anyway it was a piece of cake, the pratitioner nurse took me into her office and got me to sign the consent form discussed humira delivery, phone calls which can only be taken by me to arrange re-supply and followup. She then went on to give me a demo with a dummy injector on how to use it and what the procedure is. After that it was drop me trousers and get on with it, did'nt feel a thing at first then just a small steady stinging sensation which went pretty quickly. Got my biological warning card and emergency contact numbers and its see her in three months.
Bit early for side effects i imagine but so far so good though Gill did say i was red in the face though put that down to tiredness. Next self injection in two weeks time. keep you informed on my progress and Gills as and when.0 -
Fabulous! Well done, I'm glad it went smoothly. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0
