Hi all

back from a rheumy apptment. Came out a bit fed up. Not sure why? Felt as if I'd been given a good talking to and realised I think I have been a little in denial about condition. Hey ho anyway quick query. What is a normal indicator for inflammation ESR (is that right?)as in numbers and also CRP? Rheumy wants to keep a close eye on my levels. I have no idea what is low and high!

Thanks

rachel
P.S Been told I need to stay on Sulphasalazine for at least a year!
Lets hope it starts to work then...

I was told that good figures for ESR and CRP are in single digits. I am currently at 1 and 5 thanks to humira but the pain hasn't lessened accordingly (can't have everything, I suppose). My figures have been close to 200 at their worst. Dreamdaisy

    Hi Rachel

For me, anything below 20 for both is considered good. I would think that as long as the figures drop to a reasonable level, then you are becoming more stable. The lower those figures become over a period of time the better, even if you start off high.

Note: The figures are for your last blood test date and if you have a cold or feel ill for any other reason then they will be higher than normal.

I would advise you keep a record now of symptoms and inlfammation levels so that you can see if any sort of pattern emerges. It isn't hypochondria, it's common sense.

I have records going back a few years now, and for me sulph did nothing in terms of reducing inflammation levels but I think my PA has been resistant all the way thro to any sort of treatment!

Try not to stay in denial for too long - it doesn't help in the long run and may make things worse. (Worse? I hear you say. How the hell can things get worse?!) Keep us informed of your progress, we are interested and fingers crossed it works for you. Dreamdaisy
