    hello Joan
I am really sorry you are suffering, what you describe about the pain going across your back and stiffening up, is the same has mine, It is far worse if I have to stand in one place.
I am waiting to have my hip done, why wont they consider doing your hip, there are some young people on here that have had THR, go back again and tell them you cant go on like this.
There are different injections, i had them in my back, but they didnt work for me, my pain clinic said they sometimes work the second time..so it may be worth asking.
I do hope you get some help very soon
    Lots of hugs ((((((())))))

I do hope you get some relief very soon, let us know how you get on.

    Hi Joan

Think it's hip bursitis so I had two in it and no luck yet - in fact it might be worse

    Bet you are miserable too.

 might have to try something else - I talked to the doc about pregablin and i think I will ask for it if it doesnt work in about a week.

    What will you try next?

    Love

    Hi Joan

Perhaps your hip has deteriorated and now could do with the little op she mentioned. Perhaps the ortho doc will suggest it soon.
The pain you describe is very similar to my pre-op pain which stopped straight after my THR. It is now starting again and I am sure other hip is on its way out....and this is its way of letting me in on the secret.
I see my surgeon same day as you

Hi Sorry you are in so much pain. I was diagnosed 7 years ago with OA in hips and lower spine.....recently I had a THR {no one seems to hgave mentioned my back since the diagnosis} in my right hip....I go back to see the orthopaedic surgeon on the 4th June.....I think he is going to discuss the 2nd THR {he did say I needed both done} Although I've had one done I've still got this pain in my back dont know if having the second one done will make any difference???
I'm sorry you are feeling so bad and I know what you mean about feeling young but your body saying otherwise LOL {I'm 64} anmd feel the same

    Hi Joan,

I can totally empathise with hip pain as have OA in both hips and have had an op on each.

I read an article which says x rays show the deterioration of the joint but no way indicate the level of pain experienced and that an x ray of one person's hip my mean severe pain and the same findings in another would mean moderate or mild pain.

I think you need to review and give pain meds a try and if no good start making a fuss - lots of visits to GP, let consultant know in no uncertain terms how much you are suffering etc

In the mean time have you requested physio/hydro?

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

Who is he (or she) to tell you whether it's "bad enough"?! If it's affecting your quality of life, it's bad enough! >:( I wouldn't wish this disease on my worst enemy, but sometimes I almost wish certain people could feel what it's like, just for one day!

    Hi Joan,
Its on its way but still not as bad as the other hip reached last year.At this point i dont really want a THR cos of the childrens problems. Are you worried about what the little op may be?July 12th is still a long way off to find out.

    Dear Joan

I am so sorry to hear that the jab did not help with your hip pain.We raise our hopes and it is sometimes even worse when we hope so much the treatment will help and it does not. That is a long time to wait for your July appointment when you are in a lot of pain.

Could you not call your gp and ask her what she meant when she mentioned perhaps you could have a little op. She would not have meant a new hip as that is most definitely not classed as "a little op". You are entitled to know what she meant.

    Thinking of you,

    Love

If it isn't benefitting you or helping then at the end of the course don't have anymore. If you quit early consultant might say you didn't give it a fair crack (rubbish I know.) Have you told the physio that it even hurts in the water?

At least on a plus note you can let consultant know that hydro did not help...

    Hi Joan,

some of your pain might be caused by referred pain. This can be self helped/treated by identifying your trigger points and gently massaging them. A friend lent me a fab book about this and it has become my bible - I had to buy my own copy or I'd have never given her hers back!!! You could probably ask your libary to order it or buy it online -

The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook Your Self-Treatment Guide for Pain Relief by Clair Davies

The book uses a lot of anatomical terms I was unfamiliar with but has very clear diagrams which really help. Worth at try?
