I've been upstairs, watching the tennis, when I spotted four or five very small, bright lavender-blue butterflies dancing about outside, plus about 5 million greenfly. What are the butterflies called - does anyone know - and yes, delboy, I know they're called butterflies! Would they be eating the greenfly? Perhaps this is one for springwatch. Dreamdaisy

I don't think butterflies eat other insects, they feed primarily on nectar that's why they have a long proboscis to dip into the centre of flowers. some also gain nourishment from rotting fruit and tree sap.

They might have been the common blue butterfly, which as the name suggests, is the most common one in the UK.

    Good to see you :)

    Hi Sharon,

Lucy spotted one yesterday. They must be local.

Seven tonight. And still millions of greenfly. They're at the front of the house.

At the back, however . . . . . one huge, plug-ugly stag beetle. Shudder. I do not like them, especially when they fly. DD
