Hi
I went to physio today (THR 7weeks post op today) last time she said a lot of mustle waste, today I have improved a little, she gave me more excercises which will control my stomach muscles too (which I really need).
I told her that I thought my leg was now longer since the op she measured me and its only about 1/2 inch, but she found that I am walking bent to one side so she put some foam into my heel of my shoe and showed me myself walking in the mirror and yes I am definately walking to one side, so now I have to concentrate on walking straight while hobbling on the crutches.
Over the first few weeks I thought I would never get better, but although its such a long job it is slowly improving, I am sooo not used to not doing much I have found it very frustrating, but doing more now so all is good.

Denise.

    Hi Denise

Sounds like you're on the right track now girl :D

Good to remedy the slant in your gait really quickly - I am sy=uer you will sort it soon now you have the insole and rae awrae oif it.

As for the stomach muscles - none of us use 'em as we should do we? Yet they are so very essential arent thye.

    You going again next week?

    Love

    Hi Denise

That's good news about the improved muscle tone. You must have been doing something right since your last physio appointment!!

    Best wishes

    Hi Denise,

sounds like a constructive appointment, good to know you have improved the strength in your muscles - the improvement will be gradual. Also interesting to know about the leaning etc as now you can concentrate (when not too tired) on correcting it.

What do you have to do for the tummy muscles - I'm curious because mine are weak too - though have improved since op - as they have had to compensate for other muscles.

A 1/2 inch difference is still a 1/2 inch difference - are you being referred to an orthotist/podiatrist? It is worth getting proper insoles for your shoes so that you aren't putting strain on your back etc If you haven't been referred then request that you are.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi
Toni - I go to physio again in 3 weeks time I think they gave me plenty of excersies to be going on with it'll take me 3 weeks to do them all.

Speedalong - I can see the podiatrist if I want to when I recover from the op because I have a problem with my achilles tendon in my heels, but I will wait and see about that one.
The excersice for my stomach which works all the muscles around that area of the body is similar to the pelvic floor excersices if you have ever done those i.e. pulling all lower tummy muscles and holding.
When you start physio they will give you the sheet with them on I got them this 2nd appt.

Your having a laugh arent you?!!

I was shown some exercises in hospital and given a sheet with them on and I think that is it ... unless I go to the docs and ask him to refer me to my local health centre.

You are joking that is ridiculous you should be seeing physio, I know they dont see you a lot but they should see how you are doing and help you with your mobility.
I know every area is different in how they deal with things but still!!!
I saw them in the hospital they gave me some excercises and a appointment, then I saw then I think that I see them 3 times at the hospital several weeks apart. You really do need their help with the excersice and to let them see exactly what you can do and cant do. One of the excersices I couldnt do last time so she showed me a different one that I could do in its place, its the little things that you are not sure about that you need their help with.
If I were you I would go to see the doc and ask him.

    Hi Denise, also Speedalong

I think I am living on another planet! I haven't seen anyone since discharge (apart from the District Nurse to remove my staples at 20 days - and even then I had to phone the nurse myself as I was originally told by the GP Receptionist that I had to go to the 'Walk In Centre' at the local hospital to have the staples removed - as that's what she did when she had her hysterectomy!!)

I'm intrigued by the team who are coming in to change your TEDs Speedalong - I don't think we have them round here (North West)..

    Best wishes
