The sound of silence

Hi
I've got my three beautiful grand-daughters staying with me for the week ( aged 12, 7, and 6 ) They are three fantastic girls, all great personalities, very lively and wonderful company. We're having a great week going out and about, and playing lots of games in the garden etc.
But just at this minute, they've gone out without me for an hour or so, and suddenly the house has become silent. I love the sound of children's voices in the house again, but oh, it's so nice to sit in silence for a little while. Think I must be getting old :!:  HELP :!: :!:

Hi Joan. I know the feeling. When my daughters were young all the kids came to play at our house. All the other mothers always asked "how do you put up with them" "does the noise not drive you mad" etc. I have always had the ability to switch my ears off. Six or seven five year olds running round the house playing games and I could easily sit and read a book. Yet if one of them cried I heard it immediately. Daughters fully grown (youngest 17) so all I hear now is loud music and lots of telephone ringing. Oh I miss the days when fish fingers then ice cream was seen as a feast by all the kids. Enjoy your granddaughters they will grow up so quickly and we all need to build up a store of happy memories.
Regards

Hi Del
Yes, I was cherishing the silence when I wrote this earlier today. It wasn't for long, but I enjoyed it while it lasted.
Hi Mel
The gin idea is a good one, for me at least :!:
Hi Trisher, and pleased to meet you.
Our house always used to be full of children too. My children are twins ( one of each sex ) and they used to bring half the class home with them. When they were teenagers, our house seemed to be the favourite place for all their friends to congregate, so it was always noisy and busy. Then they both went off to uni at the same time, so suddenly it went far too quiet.0 -
Hiya Joan
Are your granddaughters still with you? I'm assuming they go back to school next week like ours?
Neither me or my hubby like being in the house without the kids. They had to stop over at my parents' house a couple of times whilst I was away and my hubby would ring me and say he didn't like being on his own, bless him :-) He's such a big softie.

My grand-daughters go home tomorrow, so having said how much I was enjoying a few moments of silence, I know that it will seem far to quiet again when they go. I love the fact that they play with some of the same toys which belonged to my daughter, their Mummy, when she was their age. I kept the toys in a box in the loft for sentimental reasons, and never dreamed that one day I would have three lovely grand-daughters to rediscover them.0
