Opinion of Pain Seminar

I went to the Pain Clinic yesterday for the second part of the pain seminar.

I would like to say that it was really interesting and I'd learnt something, but I can't. The two people running it are very anti physio's, medication, and the information about the nature of pain and the ways to cope with it seemed odd. They were one person short, so that may have been the reason things seemed disjointed.

They did say that pain is a real thing, and we should treat it, but no positive ideas about how. Still, it was good to meet others who had problems with pain and discuss how they coped and the way they managed to do things.

I think one of the problemst they had at the clinic is that they didn't have enough time and that made the pace of the course to quick and rushed with not much chance to discuss or ask questions. Thats how I found it and the others on the course seemed to agree.

It sounds as though you could have run the course Sue especially if you learnt nothing new. :| I'm of the opinion that, we, who have the experience of living with arthritis everyday could educate many of the experts

I'm glad you met some new peeps in the same boat :D

Do you have to go again, if yes, maybe the next one will be more informative. Let's hope so.

    How very disappointing Sue!

Is there anything else on offer? What's the next step?

    Best wishes

That sounds disappointing. Was it a one off or are there more sessions to follow? I'd ask to go back when there are different speakers or the team is all there.

Hi, The pain clinic experts are going to discuss if they think we need further treatment, such as Cognative Behaviour Therapy.

The consultant in charge may also send for people if their is something else to offer eg meds. I haven't heard yet, of course, but at least I feel that I have been and tried everything so far offered. Love Sue

    Hi Sue,

it doesn't sound at all how I imagined ... I thought they worked with you ... not judged which approaches might work for you/you can have access to. I wonder if your experience is typical or unique. I hope you hear from them and get some more support/advice.

    Hi Sue,

Sorry I am late seeing this and well I am sorry it didn't live u to expectations..... its such a good thing to learn and I wonder can you go on a fully instructor ed one? Mind its not quite what I had hoped for you but I do know the CBT can help people so much and often they got to visualization and meditation so maybe that would help you?

I survive now a days on pregabalin/drifting/ meditation and loud music directed into my ears :lol: I hope the next thing will be less disappointing (I am for you, actually the right group setting can be so good at helping you to bring the pain down to a manageable level) Leaving you a (((( )))) and maybe go for the CBT would be a good idea? How disappointing, a real opportunity missed. Surely people who run pain seminars shoud have experienced some long-lasting pain in their lives, otherwise it's a little like me trying to teach advanced maths (having failed my maths 'O' level 3 times). It was, however, a chance to meet people in a similar boat and that is always a good thing. I hope you are OK today. DD
