Hi
Well saw the consultant......Had an X Ray of the new hip...He's very pleased with that. Asked about any aches and pains etc...told him all I could remember and he said everything was normal.
Told him about staggering when in crowds and having to weave in and out and he did a few tests and said it would clear as my hip improived ...it was noting serious.
Confirmed I had spondylosis
As far as the 2nd hip replacement is concerned he said...I was to ring him if it got any worse or I thought I needed it and meantime he would make another appointment for me with one of his colleagues in approx 6 months time......So if I'm happy enough until this next appt. no new hip.......his colleague may refer me to him again or I might want to talk to him and say I wanted it done...Thats about it.
He said swimming was the best thing I could do....but no breast stroke or bjutterfly stroke.
Oh yes...asked him about the length of my legs and they were measured {on the image on the computer} one leg is shorter than the nother....about 2 hairs breadth LOL
Changed my medication slightly so I'll try it
Hope everyone else is keeping well
Love
Hileena

    Hi Hileena,

That sounds a reasonable appointment eh? I hope the slight change of meds will help a bit and glad you don't have to decide just yet with the other hip. 6 months will make a huge difference to the new one.

Fingers crossed it all goes well for you till the next appointment. Cris x

    Hi Hileena
That was a good appointment it seemed to go quite well, its good when the consultant lets you contact them direct if you decide about your other hip my sister has a consultant that did the same sort of thing.
    take care

    Hi Hileeena

    Sounding GOOD girl :D

Bet you are pleased. All done for 6 months then barring any unforseen problems.

Good news - just the sort of thing you want to hear if you are ABOUT to have the op eh? (not me  )

Hi Hileena, sounds like a positive appointment.

Sounds like you will be doing lots of swimming then?! How long is the ban on breast stroke for - it's my main stroke (never seemed o do my other hip replacement any harm - but I do have a "screw kick" evidently.) Hopefully as the leg gets stronger the weaving in and out will get easier. I don't remember staggering but I do remember it used to make me ache and tire more quickly than when walking along a nice straight, uncrowded route.

Good to be in control of when your other hip is done.

Dont know anything about spondalytis (sp) ...

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi
Yes I'm pleased with the outcome of the appointment.
    Wre have put off sorting holidays out because of it...now I know I have the reset of the year free {unless it gets really bad and I think I need it done}
As for the breast stroke I dont know how long the ban is...didnt think to ask because I cant really swim LOL He said just go in the water at the shallow end and walk and that will be enough...but I can float quite happily, the rest I can really only do a bit becauise I've never really tried
Well thats it for the minute.
Spondylosis is basically osteo arthritois in the spine and it usually makes your spine curve

Hi Hileena, I know what you mean about not booking holidays - I didn't book one this year because I didn't know when my op would be - we are now hoping to go away in the autumn half term - as I should be able to drive properly by then. Have fun planning your hols.

As well as walking in the shallow end, you can do your standing physio exercises in the water too. If no ones comes along on this thread with words of wisdom about breast stroke ... then I'll start a new thread.

That's not so good news about your spine is it, is there anything they can do surgically? I suppose once both hips are "sorted" that should help ease your back - it won't have to compensate for your hips.

    Hi Speedalong
As far as the curve in my spine is concerned there is nothing they can do......like all other arthur it will get worse....depends on the person how fast.
Its sore across the lower part of my back and I cant carry things [shopping] even to the car park without it hurting...He says that should clear when my 2nd hip is done.
The actual curve doesnt bother me {painwise} its just pride LOL and there are so many people worse off.
I'll be ointerested to read the time limit for breaststroke as well

    Hi hileena :D

your appointment went really well then! sounds as though your consultant was very pleased with your progress and is taking a sensible cautionary approach to considering a 2nd op.
Refreshing to read that you will be the one who decides the timescale for surgery.

hope you go from strength to strength. lots of love and congratulatory (((hugs)))

    Thanks Iris,
Yes I was surprised.......I read a copy letter from him to my GP and he said he was going to discuss the second hip at this appointment.....I was nearly as gobsmacked when he said I could decide when I was ready as I was when I went to my GP and said paracetamol on its own wasnt touching my pain and he referred me....and the consultant did an x ray then calmly said..."You need 2 new hips" from paracetamol to double hip replacement LOL

My leg still gets very heavy and very tired if I walk very far then the other one gets very sore if I go a bit further LOL
Dont think him changing the times of my painkillers is working but I'll perservere foir a while
