Hi everyone haven't been on for a while, I am fuming about this stupid D L A, I applied for it in May and i have got a Benefit officer who filled the stupid long book in, i have got O A off both hips and knees although one is worse than the other also i have other illnesses such as Asthma, Angina, and many other things, I have an O T that has and still is bringing me all the gadgets a gizmos to help me around the house which are a godsend, but first of all they sent a letter saying why was my form sent in later than the date they put on the top and asked me for a reason why so i just got in touch with my benefit man and he came and collected it and said he would fill it in but why it was late had nothing to do with when it was sent out because it was sent out on time but they had forgot about the May Bank holiday so naturelly they got it late not our fault, then they sent another letter to say they were writing to my G P, well as i have not been to my doctor for a while god only knows what he has put on the form, well as you can guess from what i am writing about Yes i got the letter of refusell, in the letter they said I could walk 50 metres, well that is funny as i cannot go out unless i go in my wheelchair and my B/Officer put this on on the form but obviously they have took no notice,Anyway everthing what they put on is wrong, saying i don't need help getting around well who pushes me around in the wheelchair My poor Hubby must be invisible as he has to help me alot, I am sorry for going on But you people know what these so called deciders  are like a child could do a better job than them,Anyway I am not leaving it at that, My B/ officer will see to that its a good job i have got him I could not do it on my own, sorry to go on but that is why Im'e fuming and had to get it off my chest, I will keep you all informed of the outcome looks like i have a fight on my hands, ooh im'e so mad :x sorry all. Hi Wendylou
They seem to turn down first time applications unfortunately.Maybe the deciders get told off if they accept first time! It certainly feels that way.
As for the GP I never visit them either as I feel my health issues are too specialist for them to deal with. I need someone with knowledge of my particular probs. There is a box on the form asking when you last saw your GP and I never know what to put as it is years!
If your form was late that might mean your claim will only be back dated to the date they received it.
Of course you have to appeal. I am sorry you have to go through a lot more hard work but I believe they are trying to weed out the benefit cheats, although of course the entitled claimants are the ones suffering.
Bet wishes

Hi Wendylou
Oh dear! Have you told them about this? Good luck with getting it sorted out. I can understand your frustration.

Hi Wendy, take a deep breath, don't take it personally ... they turn down most first time applicants (naturally you have nothing better to do than fill in forms with your benefits officer!!) Channel that anger and indignation into appealing ... will your benefits officer help? If not the CAB are used to appealing and winning!!
Good luck,

It is so important to use your GP as all your benefit decisions and insurance such as for mortgage go through the GP first. My GP and benefits advisor told me to do an sheet on the pc which I update every 3-6 months dependant on whats happening to me. THen I send him a copy and have a telephone call occasionally when things are bad, even if he cant do anything he has everything recorded so can relay that to insurers or DWP. He says its invaluable as we dont often tell the GP everything that we struggle with we just try to get on with it or we forget because that was last week and this week..............
They rarely write to rheumy consultants as the replies take months if ever.. so your GP is needed for these. It must work as I was awarded DLA and ESA on first go (I know please dont lynch me for this :? ) My mobility is such I cant go out without a carer as I get unstable and fall often but dont want a wheelchair!! and would still need a carer as my hands couldnt use a free wheeling one either. I also need care dressing at home and in the kitchen having had accidents with pans and the kettle
I have to admitr I am blessed with an amazing GP who is very honest (and apologetic) if he doesnt know something but does try research things for me.
IN all Please please use your GP otherwise these pitfalls will always happen. They need to know all the ins and outs of your difficulties on a day to day basis. I know its wrong but they GP can only legally write what is in your notes. Didnt you know were all exaggerating liars!!! :roll:according to these benefits idiots. ) THe GP is the only person who can tell the truth.
good luck everyone

How very wise theresa4. That is such a good idea, but really it is only common sense. GPs are not clairvoyants, they are responsible for many patients and if one doesn't keep in touch with them how are they supposed to know what's going on? I have kept an ongoing diary of everything connected to my PA, I started it yonks ago when things started going wrong. It makes wretched reading (!) but at least all my info is in one place and I have a complete record. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Yep Theresa
very good response....
it does seem that lately everyone is getting turned down first go or getting a low award.
I agree though GPs often knwo very little about us and how we are esp if you are like a lot of us - reluctant to go in - for fear of being a nuiscance.
I hope you do appeal and it goes well.
Love
