A Very Determined Little Girl

My youngest, Jassie, is 6 years old and I've never known anyone so determined to do what she wants. She has her older sisters (aged 8 and 11) and her Dada wrapped round her little finger and, I have to admit, she gets spoilt by me too. She just has this way of doing what she likes, while getting everyone's approval. I wish I could bottle what she has.

We go swimming every Sunday and Wednesday and I once said to her that I could only take her swimming on Sundays because, as she couldn't swim, I had to stay with her and I didn't get much exercise. She took this well enough and understood, no tantrums or sulks or anything. In the next few weeks, she taught herself to swim, by throwing herself forward into the water and kicking and splashing. She then said to me "Mama, I can swim, so I can come with you on Wednesdays now, can't I?"

In the new year, she wanted me to buy her a 2 wheeled scooter. I laughingly said "Jassie, you won't even ride your two wheeled bike, that's brand new and sitting in the garage", so in the past couple of weeks, she has taught herself. She's fallen off a good few times but just picks herself up and carries on. She asked me this afternoon when I'm buying her a scooter

She'll go far in life, don't you think?

    Hi Nina

Jassie is the most delightful little girl, with a wonderful personality. She stole my heart within the first five minutes of meeting her, and I can imagine her determination to succeed. Possibly being the youngest of three might have some effect on her attitude, but I think you are a very good role model for her yourself, Nina. I guess that she has learned from you that if you want to achieve something, you have to put in the effort and work hard for it. I think you demonstrate this very well to her on a daily basis. I am certain she will go far in life, and also her sisters.

I hope you had a good time on your course, but it's nice to have you back.

    All the best

It is very good practice for life....not letting anything get in your way and perservering. So well done to your daughter, she should go far.

    Hi Nina
I've read many articles that say's babies can start manipulating from 6 months old. With older siblings, is it no wonder your lovely daughter has developed this way.

She sounds abit like my youngest grandson, who has two older brothers. His older brother adores him. He is 7 and Paul, 3 1/2 can play at the same level as he can. Because of this, the middle one, Ashley feels left out,so he and Paul come to blows rather a lot.

As for your lovely little daughter, it must be very hard to say no sometimes.

This very determined little girl has been in my bad books this week! Every morning this week, we have got ready and I'm halfway down the road with the girls in the car to take them to school when Jassie pipes up "I've forgotten my school bag!" Every morning!

So I told her this morning that if she forgets it tomorrow, we won't be going back to the house, she can just tell her teacher that she hasn't brought her homework and she can stay hungry all day because her lunch will be at home. Not that I will do that, but honestly! She's far too used to her sisters doing everything for her!

Last night, I heard Simie (who was doing a jigsaw at the dining table) say "Stop pushing me, Jassie" and Jassie giggling. Then there was an almighty crash and I ran in from the kitchen to find that Simie's chair had toppled over into the patio doors and Jassie was standing over her, crying louder than Simie saying "I'm sorry, it was an accident!" over and over again. I had to send her into the hall to stand before I burst out laughing (Jassie has always been able to turn on tears faster than a tap) before I picked up Simie who was OK, it turned out.

    Little angel? I think not!

Toni, no life is never boring in our house!

I went food shopping after work today and bought myself some chocolate as a treat. I found Jassie unwrapping my chocolate after dinner in front of the TV and when I told her that was mine, she said, in all seriousness "But it's got gluten in it, Mama".

There followed a bit of a tussle and wrestling where I tried (and failed) to get the chocolate off her and her sisters. No wonder I never put on any weight. Fat chance of that happening in our house!

    Hi Nina,

Sounds like life is never dull in your house. Your little'un will go far.

Have you ever seen Outnumbered on the TV? It really makes me laugh out loud.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Speedy and Toni

They're all monsters, but we wouldn't be without them!

Speedy, I've never seen outnumbered because I never remember when its on - it looks funny when I see the ads for it though. I should try to catch it.

Jassie forgot her swimming kit this morning. We had to go back to the house yet again to pick it up. When we got to the front door, she said "Ellen, go and get it", so she had a proper telling off from me (while I fought to keep a straight face) and had to fetch it herself. It doesn't help that her sisters kept giggling, they find this morning forgetful routine very amusing!

I told her that that was it, I wasn't talking to her anymore and so all the way to school, she kept trying to get me into a conversation with her, saying things like "Aren't you talking to me, Mama?" and smiling her dimpled smile at me. She runs rings round us all. I tell people that only one person wears the trousers in our house, and that's Jassie!
