    Hi Jasper,

Not had the finger problems but I have had trouble with my feet.

Sometimes i find soaking them in salt water then rubbing in an anti-inflam gel helps.

    Sorry you are suffering though.

Hi Jasper, I get the itching knuckles and hand joints, too, sometimes it drives me to distraction. Not sure what meds you are on, but I was putting it down to the Metho.

If it's not the Metho, can't think what it is! I've just started using Bio Oil to see if that calms it down at all. I haven't got much in the way of swelling of those joints and not all of them are painful at the moment, they just itch.

    hi
I get itching in my joints before a flare
I soak in cold water to sooth them or run under the cold tap & put on aftersun ...(it helps cool them a bit and moisturises the skin ...when its dry it makes it worse)
but i've never really found a way of stopping it
    sorry

    Hi jaspercat!

interesting this one....I thought it was just me too!

I get very itchy joints ...a 'drive you mad' kind of itch in the joint itself.
Like Chrisie I get it only in actively flaring joints.

I mentioned it to rheummy but he was non- commital. The rheummy nurse said it might be crystals??? never pursued it further though.

don't know what to suggest to relieve it as I never have found a 'cure'....

    love and (((hugs)))

I'm reading all this with interest.....Iris, mine is that 'drive you mad' itching, but if it's a pre-flare thing the actual flare seems to be a long time coming up. I've had this for about 6 weeks now. First I thought it was the different water down here but then I'm not itching anywhere else! Then, as I said, I put it down to the Metho.....I guess time will tell on this one!

    Hi Jasper

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis in every joint invented. I notice that especially before a flare up in particular joints I itch like mad - especially my fingers and elbows.

A rash always comes up and wee bumps and they are so unsightly! My GP said that when my Methotrexate kicks in it should take care of it also however meantime he gave me a cream called Calcitriol which I apply twice a day. Sometimes it helps sometimes it doesn't.

    Hope you find relief soon.
    Keep smiling

    Hi Jasper

Isn't it a kind of 'pain'?? I'm sure it is...another way of feeling pain.

I hope you are ok otherwise?

    Love

Hi Jaspercat - can't help with the finger joint itching but can certainly send my sympathy and understanding for the "enough to drive you insane" itching. I have been itching like mad over past few months or so - suspected fungal infection due to meds and NOTHING seems to help. Lots better now, but still not right and at times it has driven me nearly demented. So you have all my sympathy and hope you can find a solution - even it gives you only temporary respite. And hope your foot feels better soon too! Love Tilly xx

Hi, I get itching in my upper body sometimes. The Pain Clinic consultant said that its caused by nerves not sending the correct pain signals! I think I prefer itching!!! It does get on your nerves though. My amatriptylne has seemed to help a bit, I;ve noticed since I've had that, the itching is much less. May be coincidence.

    Wow!
Thought it was just something they had come into contact with, but thinking about it stiffness and pain generally follow in the next few days.

I moisturise with what ever is available and find I need to cool them down however I can.
No one in Rheum dept has ever asked me if I have such symptoms!!
Yet it seems like a common problem for us all!
Must be once the pain strikes we forget until the next episode that we ever had the itching!

Yes, I get this too but have osteo arthur & take no medication. It is an itch that you just rub & rub at but seems to be completely un - scratch-able!

My itching has returned...after a couple of months of being fine. It's in my thumb joint. Maybe the cold is setting it off?

amazing the itching drives me insane as well but I also have nerve problems so thought it was all through that but now I know different right now after having my TWR on 2nd Nov my fingers are numb and drive me nuts with a itchy buzzing feeling I know its caused by the nerves being affected by the op 2 fingers are totally numb which I find so irritating but being free of arther pain in that wrist is wonderful, I use Eurax for itching to ease it off

Just came across this using Google and see it's an old posting but it called to me. I have only one joint that itches a lot. It's at the base of my fore finger, used a lot in the past when taking notes, and now when using the computer mouse. It is enlarged, from osteoarthritis, and periodically the skin over it gets red and itchy. Like now. It is a bit hot, but that could be from the scratching. No idea why, as it doesn't lead to pain. Just the itching. Most odd.

    Hello;

Well since we've revived and old thread, I have this too. It drives me mental!! The joints are in my hand and the only ones chronically inflamed. I use cortisone cream but know caution needs to be exercised here as skin can thin to the point of creating sores.

What I wanted to mention was that in veterinary medicine (I used to be an assistant), and not really applicable to humans, itchiness over joints is one thing we look for for in animals with arthritic joints and pain. I've never seen it mentioned in human medicine.

May not be comparable, but I thought it was interesting given my itchy-knuckles experience.
