New bony bit

Hi all, :)

I was just wondering if anyone else has bone growth/osteophytes at the bottom of the tibia where it joins the ankle? I have read that it is common with OA.

I have something going on akin to a new bit of bone at the top of my inside right ankle that is about the size of a fingertip. Fortunately it isn't painful but I am suprised with it's whereabouts as I have AS and I thought that if I were to 'grow' anything on my feet/ankles it would be near my achilles or heel.

I am off to my Rheumy on the 30th so don't have long to wait and see what its all about which is a good thing.

Arna x

Hi Arna, I'm sorry I don't know what it is ... Good luck with your appointment. If you are worried you could always ask your GP to request you have an x ray. At least it doesn't hurt.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

And it's nice to see you too. xx I am always lurking however don't always post.

Thanks for your response - I will try and remember to let you know what Rheumy says about it. I am pretty sure it is the result of enthesitis as this has been what we have been trying to calm down. It's just weird and suprising. Just goes to show you how often I check out my feet huh! hahaha!! A quick lick of soap and off she goes! :D

    Thanks for your Speedy :D

Yes, at least it doesn't hurt. Unless it changes I think I will avoid going to my GP as just like everyone else on here I am over going to the Dr's! I've got a sneaking suspicion that it's been growing throughout winter while I have been rugged up in thick socks and big boots and it's only now that the sun is out and I want to wear cool shoes that I have found it...ho hum! :)

The main thing is it isnt sore...makes a difference doesnt it.
Bit like my b ack OA in spine.....I get pain across the lower part of my back but the bit where I have a curve in my spine doesnt hurt at all....just hurts my pride LOL and the lower spine bit should clear up when I eventually have the 2nd THR

Hi Arna, nice to meet you.

I have osteophytes, but they are in my cervical spine and they cause all manner of troubles, won't list it down, or you will be asleep

They are quite common in OA and can often be quite innofensive, depending on the place and amount of bony overgrowth, or spurs as they are sometimes called.

Glad that are not causing pain and discomfort though.

    Hi Arna

Sorry to hear about your lumps n' bumps. I don't have OA but RA and I have lumps appearing all over the place too - sometimes feel like a medical mutant

I'm not much help to you however you mentioned the summer weather and shoes? I live in my fit-flops. They are so comfy and I bought the sparkly sequence ones to feel like twinkle toes

Have a good day today and keep smiling

    Hi Hileena,

    Thanks for your reply. :)
I have AS so am constantly worrying about the curve in my back. It is interesting to hear that your back doesn't hurt where the curve is. The top of my back and neck are really playing up at the moment and I am sure it has something to do with why it looks more curved than it did just recently. I read somewhere that if I am unlucky enough to end up with my spine completely fusing it won't be painful anymore. So like you it will just be my pride that is dented!

It's great to hear that after your THR you won't have pain in your lower back, something to really look forward too!

Hope you are having a good day!

Yes, I bet they do cause all sorts of trouble in your spine, what a place to grow, honestly

Hi there Carol (aka Twinkle Toes!)

I feel like I am becoming a medical mutant and constantly evolving. I am always being kept on my toes by something new that is going on that is related to arthur. At least with this newest addition I don't have long to wait before I see a doc.

Like you, I think I will be living in my flip flops this year, I heard somewhere it is going to be a really good summer. The past few days here have been fantastic, I even sport a tan on my shoulders now!

Hope you are feeling okay today.
