Hello All
Has anyone ever had this procedure? I'm due to have it done on the 15th June, I've been told that it will involve removal of some of the bone in the shoulder and then repairing the tendons.
The surgeon said that its not a direct result of Arthur but the Arthur can aggravate it?
Am a bit nervous even though its over a week away!

Hi,
sorry I haven't had this procedure. Hopefully someone will be a long soon who has. Are you staying in hospital or is it done as day surgery? Is it done under general or local? Will you have a pre-op appointment? I have a heard of people having an arthroscopy on other joints - a young lady had one done on her knee at Special Olympics - she had to rest her knee after and had a ban on sports for 3 months - but recovered well and is competing again now - so I would call that a good result. Feeling nervous is perfectly natural and normal. Try focusing on the benefits once you have recovered.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Arthroscopy is another name for keyhole surgery I think. I had an arthroscopy of my my right knee, it was a piece of cake, far better than open surgery. Basically I had the joint cleaned - the surgeon removed hardened lumps of synovial fluid. The technique minimises intrusion, minimises damage, minimises recovery time. Mine was done under general anaesthetic, had a three-week recovery rather than six-ten weeks that other things have taken, it was fine. It didn't achieve much but you don't know until you've tried. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi,
I had this op about 8 years ago, very good result, it was made worse by my RA, recovery was very quick. Wish some of the other procedures I have had were as quick to heal. Good Luck!

Hi Jcp
Don't worry I'm sure you'll be fine. I'm waiting for an appointment to see the specialist about my shoulder and they reckon it's bone spurs which will be sorted out by keyhole surgery. I'm sure someone will come up with some great advice for you.
Good luck on the 15 June. Just think you'll have a pain free shoulder!

Thank you for all your replies, all very helpful as always
The surgeon has said that he hopes to do it via keyhole but there is a possibility that they may have to cut my shoulder open, I do hope not!!
Have been explaining to my little boy that the Doctor is going to make Mummy's shoulder better and he said " Well I will put him on the Naughty Step if he hurts you Mum" Bless him!
It will be nice to get the mobility back as its my right shoulder and I'm right handed so it has been a bit tough!0 -
It is difficult to lose control and trust someone else to make the decisions for you, even if he is a well trained surgeon. How much pain can you stand if you don't have it done?
A slightly different view but a telling one, you're the lucky one, you've got a diagnosis, an offer from a surgeon and a promise of an improvement!

Hi JCP, no experience of this but just wanted to wish you lots of luck for next week's op - and hope it makes things much better for you!
