Hi All
Sorry to be whingeing again but on Friday got letter from DWP stating my sick note runs out of 8 June and they must have replacement by 9 June....Now I specifically remember when I got last one made mental notes in head when other one had to be in for and the fact that its got to travel from Kendal to Carlisle via the post, it ran out on 11 June. So with this in mind, made app for 8 June plenty of time to send it....Nope gets letter on Friday, made app this morning instead with a Nurse Practitioner (only one could get at short notice).
Now get this she welcomes me into room, says what can she do for me? I said basically needed note as leg no better in fact had noticed worsening things.........She asked had I made a decision, I said all about kneecap removal, didnt want it out, wanted 2nd opinion.....She tells me then that she doesnt sign a sick note, its a fit note.....Tells me that they are obliged to put down what sort of work Im fit for, what was my last job? I told her it was data entry but even sitting at a desk is not easy for me and there's also the getting about a workplace........Also said hadnt really felt supported in my condition and thought mayabe someone could have done something somewhwere. Anyway she tells me she will sign me off for 2 weeks only but will need to talk throught with own doc. Why is it when you need help the govenment seems apt to kick you in the teeth, there are genuine people then there is scroungers and I aint one of them!!! Im being questione d at time when I need a bit more help from NHS and theyre not givig it...
Im really cheesed off and feel right got at....Rant over!!

Well you know shouldnt say it but be prepared to be turned down bluntly....My medical was on 17 June at 09.30am, by 18 June before close of play they had made their mind up that I was fit to work despite the fact I had to be helped onto examining couch, could not do things (squats, bend) as she requested........
Its done with the least amount of common sense ever known to man/woman!! Bloody goverment!! Grr!!!!

Hi Elaine,
it is SO frustrating isn't it. Arther is hard enough without having to deal with other plebs on route!!
I'm not really experienced with sick notes/well notes - but my GP gave me one following coming out of hospital - they don't have to fill in the "well bit" they can just say "still not fit for work." At least two weeks gives you time to see the GP again and work out what you want to say.
There was a post on here this weekend about knee ops and how it is no longer considered a good idea to remove knee caps ... might be worth searching for the thread and then doing a bit of googling - no harm presenting the GP with a print out!! Especially if it is from a medical journal/NICE guidelines/ Choice NHS website etc
Good luck and keep us posted.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Well done that was a good un! I think its more to do with frustration, that departments interfere in our lives and upset our mental equilibrium of what is right and wrong with their fixed methods of administration.
If they were allowed to make decisions on what is reasonable at the time then life would be better for all concerned. I for one would not want to work in their offices and be constrained from using common sense, it would be like working in a strait jacket.
We may even see a reduction in civil servants over the next few years what with the budget deficit that needs to be reduced?

Hi Speedy (lol I had a tortoise called that when was a nipper).....
Oh just when youre sort of getting on an even keel something always comes to bite ya on the butt dont it??? I mean if i could seek work I would, at moment not even sure what id say in an interview re my health condition "hi im elaine n basically my left knee is stuffed but please emply me?"...
I think cos it were a plastic doc (nurse practitioner) she wanted to assert some authority but basically note dont look no different......
I must print out some stuff re kneecap removal, good thinking batman!!!, take it along, be armed n ready....
Im getting to be a serial whinger methinks...

Hi Airwave
I think that any government offical, be it taxman or council tax, whatever just seem to know how to push the button to cause maximum distress.....
Its become a tickbox world we live in where we have to fit into boxes, well tough, life aint like that!!And would we want to work for someone like that - i actually attended a DWP interview last year, passed the numeration test but not interview, the questions they ask are all based on what answer you give and not just ones you think of on the spot.......
The whole system is wrong, okay there are scroungers in every walk of life but rest assured that those people will still get craftier and evade the rules just as a car theif works out how to fox modern car alarms.....
Grr.....Froth!!!

Hi Elaine
It's no wonder you're upset. Can you see your GP instead of the Nurse Practitioner - surely they're not qualified enough to deal with your problems?
I wish you the best of luck and hope things get sorted out for you.
