hi, i was wondering if anyone here has a rocking chair which they use for the ease of getting up and down when sitting?

we've had a corner sofa for a few years which is very comfy and great for hubby and kids but extremely impractical for me now as its too low and too deep. Im only small and when i sit back my feet don't even touch the floor, which makes getting up difficult and painful either with or without help. i tend to drop into the sofa and kind of roll off

ive seen a beautiful white wooden rocking chair with cushioning which is higher and (i think) it would be easier to get up from for when im just sitting having a cup of tea, reading or watching a bit of tv.

i wouldnt mind any views on this and whether anyone has one, do they find it any easier? i know i wont be pain free getting out of one but i cant imagine its worse than having to roll myself onto the armrests to get up.

im on an extremely tight budget so spending lots isnt really an option for me, im hoping the idea of a second hand rocking chair might be a less expensive alternative?

any views?
thanks
caroline x

I have a lovely wooden rocking chair which now I love to look at. I can no longer sit in it because it's too firm, ends at the wrong point under my thighs and I do find it difficult to get out of. Yes, the forward momentum helps, but the rising is sudden! Each to their own - it doesn't suit me. Get thee to a furniture store and try some out, that way you'll know what suits and what you can manage. Good luck! DD

    Hi, I agree with DD,
Get thee to a furniture store and try some out, that way you'll know what suits and what you can manage.

Sharmaine and a few others have really sworn by furniture raisers which have helped them to get up off furniture ... might not work if you are height challenged yourself. However, must say I'm only short and I currently find it easier to get off higher seats despite being not very tall.

Make sure the rocking chair has decent arms on to be able to lever yourself up out of the chair.
