HI,
was told yest will prob have to have both my wrists fused sometime in the future. They have fused naturally but have been told to ease the pain if they fuse them surgically it should help.
Has anyone had this done? Really dont fancy the idea but as they have done it anyway and they may be less pain I guess I have nothing to lose. on mtx and as from yest taking sulphasalazine and gotta see how it goes...if not gonna try me on some jab..

this disease is so frustraing isnt it............I dont get upset with it just kinda angry, and I think scared of the unknown of what may give up on me next...sure everyone is exactly the same tho

    Hi Page,

Im not really sure what he meant, he just said not to get dispondant(excuse spelling lol), and that there are other options out there. I joined on here ages ago and havent been on so thought maybe I need to learn a bit more. ....

my wrists are stuffed, my knees were x rayed too yest and arent great but he said are ok........although when he pulled them around they were cicking and clunking like anything!!!

Do get pains elsewhere but there are only minor in the scheme of things. My wrists drive me mad, I can do stuff but I cant, have a 15 month old son and sometimes struggle with some things with him, inside I get really wound up, but I am lucky I do have lots of people to help, sometimes just want that independence tho....

never had an ultrasound on my wrists only couple of x-rays that looked like rubbed out of images cos there so messed up!!!

    Hope yours are ok....

    take care

    Hi Anna

i have a 3 yr old i got this when she was 14months, when did you get it? do you have RA?
it is a struggle with small kids but on the other hand i think some days i just wouldnt get up or do anything if i didnt have her, so she makes me do stuff which is a good thing :D
she also reminds me to take my tablets

i get pains in lots of places but it is only the wrist that doesnt move so far, touch wood and all that
i have to get a jaw guard too cos get jaw pain and when that flares up i find that the worse one to deal with.

    Hi Anna,

I don't have this personally, but have read posts of others who have had it done. Use the search facility to find out more. Dorcas/Iris has had one wrist fused - she says it was really worth it as it did wonders for the pain. Obviously a fused wrist then doesn't move, but you adapt to use your hand in creative ways.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Anna,

I am sorry to read your having so much trouble there and well I also have stiffed wrists and know how painful and horrible it is.

I don't have a fusion but iris (Dorcas) does have and when she gets out of hospital I am sure she will help you. Someone else has one but I am sorry i don't remember who.

I wish I could help more but I do know where your coming fro though, its a pain in so many ways. A ((( ))) and a hope for you and well nice to meet you. Cris x

    Hi Sharon,

Yeah I do have RA, had it since 2002, started funnily enough in my Jaw, went to eat a malteaser and couldnt get it in me mouth...although doesnt hurt anymore...got in my knees but not to bad....wrists are killers especially at night. my little boy is fantastic and he has soon learnt that i need help, like to pick him up he knows to push his feet and grab round my neck....but on the other hand has learnt that cos I have to hook him up under his arms with no grip to pick him up if he holds his arms up he can escape and i can do nothing about it.....lol

Theres so much I wanna do with him and cant.........but hey theres so many people worse off than me I do know....

would be really good to speak to someone who had had this op....just fed up of saying everything is ok when its kind of not..really dont make a fuss just get on with it cos we have to. do find it hard when friends dont mention it cos they dont understand..but thats prob cos the lack of fuss lol ..and yet everyone from work are brilliant coz they see the restrictions...........

one bonus get out of the ironing cos i just cant do it!!!!

Thanks everyone, glad Im on here...feel better allready!!

    anna

will check out the link ,thanku

Hi Anna, you sound brighter this morning.

Little'uns have bags of energy don't they. You might not be able to do the really active stuff with him - but you can still spend time together doing the things you can do - craft stuff, imaginative play, stories, enjoying videos/DVDs, watching and commenting on his antics etc Get family and friends to do the really active stuff.

Can't think what else I was going to say ...

Oh yes - have you tried posting on the helpline thread?

    Hi, he's younger than I imagined/remembered.

Does he have one of those slings that bounce in the doorway - might be tricky for you to put him in if your wrists were bad - but they do wear them out. Also the baby walkers ... not so popular these days - but ok for short periods.

Yep - being up one minute and ratty the next - that's arthers handy work ...

    Speedy

Was the link any good? Try a few more searches ...

    Hi Anna,

Hey its not bleating flower! Sometimes it does you good to just get it out even on a forum.

If you would rather give the helplines a ring, they are very good and understanding. It sounds like you get to the end of your tether hence the feeling of ok and then not ok. It all makes sense actually.

I have racked my brains (like that took long :lol: ) but still can't remember who else had the fusion. You could try the search in box up the top for wrist fusion and that might help. I know Iris has had one but she has just had a TWR so may not be able to type so well when she gets home. I am sure she will help yo though as soon as she can.

Leaving you a ((( ))) and a hope its not so painful today? Cris x
