    Hi Jo ane

I saw one a while ago when a man needed both hips replaced.

They did the op on one hip for him. Later they showed him healed and well.

What is good about it is they use your own Marrowbone, they scoop it out harvest it an then put it back. There is no rejection either which is great.

    Nature does the rest.

I hope the day comes when they are able to offer children this op so they do not spend a lifetime in pain.

It would be so nice to see this being done on a large scale.

I never saw the one in the paper or last night. The one I saw they took marrowbone from the hip and harvested it.

Then they scooped out all the diseased parts and replaced it with the harvest cells then put that in.

Now they have two ways they can help people. Lets hope a lot of people will soon feel a lot better and out of pain

Yes I did see it and it was on the local news (Midlands) the night before- fascinating stuff ...so you are going to be the forum guinea pig in this procedure .... like Iris is for a wrist replacement... Cutting edge stuff. Why don't you think it will work? Can't think why they didn't try it years ago?? Makes perfect sense. Wish they had developed it years ago - might have saved my left hip!!! Hopefully when my knees get worse I can have this instead of replacements. Keep us updated with everything. You should post this on the living with arther forum too ...
I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

I think it is probably only suitable for younger people. I have very little cartilage in one knee, but I have never been offered this procedure. It is interesting to know about though.

Always think to the future don't give up hope. They may be able to take some cartilage and grow more from that if they find the cells that grow then inplant it.

Who knows what they are already doing that we do not know about.

Maybe in the future Arthritis might be a complaint that they only read about. I like to have hope though.

Good - people might not connect the two.
