Well I went to the GP's today and I was on codeine 1 @6pm and 2@ 10pm {approx} he has given me a new prescription for codeine and said just use it as necessary {I can cope with the pain during the day} and he has prescribed a slower release codeine one {forget the name}
for the evening. I'll get it made up tomorrow. Then we will see LOL.

I asked about a pain clinic and he said since I still needed another hip doing there wasnt much they could do for me that the surgery couldnt do....so if these tablets didnt work come back.

He asked when I was having the other one done and I said it had been left up to me and I would have an appointment in 6 months if he hadnt heard before that......He more or less said that the sooner I had it done the better. {Not quite those words} but he said ...you will need it doing {know that LOL}....the pain in the operated leg is because the other one is so bad I'm compensating, and the pain in the bad one...well I just need THR, and the pain in my back is from both hips LOL sort that lot out.

Makes me tempted to think about having the other one done....maybe end Sept or beginning of Oct {if possible} I would have had a break and a bit of a holiday and hopefully would be OK for Christmas???? Needs thinking about.

I think thats about it

Love
Hileena

As I understand it you have had one hip replaced, and that is now suffering because the other is under strain and the replaced one is compensating. How much damage is that causing/will it cause? My view is have the other done as soon as possible before you affect the 'done' one too much. Replaced hips do not last for ever, and any extra wear and tear surely is not good for them. It is a big thing to undergo but if you are harming the 'new' one that has to be taken into account. DD

Hi Hileena, glad you have some meds sorted out for night time .. let's hope they are in stock and you can try them t'row.

Looks like you are going to have to have the other hip done as soon as you can bear it ... for the sake of your poor new hip and to get rid of the pain in the other hip and your back ...

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

Of course you are mulling it over - it's a big step and not to be undertaken lightly. You have, however, had the first one done and you know what it entails. Consider well, list the pros and cons (I suspect the first group will be longer!) and take it from there. I wish you well. DD

Hi Hileena, hope they work for you ... let us know how you get on.

I take paracetomol and codeine at night ... works best if I take them half an hour to an hour before bedtime ...

    Hi Hileena

Not a nice thought more surgery when you've only just got over the last lot :(

BUT I think very wise. Spet/Oct sounds like a good plan too.

As you said rest and holiday then op then better for dancing at Crimbo :D

    Love and hugs

    Toni xx

    PS codeine is GOOOD

    Hi....LOL @ Toni
Well I didnt have any codeine yesterday, just paracetamol and then this slow release one that I took about an hour before going to bed. I still woke up a few times but not as sore as the previous night.
I'm assuming that one tablet isnt going to work magic....that it will have to get in to my system before it does any good......I'll just have to wait and see.
Going to ring the consultants secretary on Monday and ask what the waiting list is for THR and take it from there

    Hi Hileena

It is a difficult decision I know. You have to balance pain with the preparation for an operation. Eventually the pai n will get too much and you will be glad to have the THR.
Take your time as i know you have to be mentally prepared as well.

Hi Hileena, are you allowed to try two tablets? I was given 30/500's got to the stage where one was not enough, two was too much and had to have a 30 and a 15 combo.

I agree with Elizabeth - it is when the pain gets too much we admit defeat and agree to have the op ... and of course then the waiting begins. Do you know how long the waiting list is? Factor that into your decision.

    Hi,
Nope cant have 2...1 Dihydrocodeine Modified release at night. 60mg.
Thats what it says on the bottle.
As for the op.....I'm going to ring the consultants secretary tomorrow and explain to her what he said and ask her what the waiting list wopiuld be and then take it from there
Going back to the medication......hopefully it will take a little while to get into my system.....might work better after I've had a few.....or is that just me being optimistic LOL
