I have been grinding my teeth due to stress. My bottom teeth are so ground down i have to think about tooth gard. I had word with nurse she said smile you carnt grind teeth if you smile. she smiled like a chesire cat they she demonstrated mouth exercises. contorting her face in strange way.
Then she said about the neck how a stressed neck looks and pulled her neck in saying you know deidre barlow dont you. She does this and did an impresision of deadre barlow. She carnt help it she said its stress whille acting. I have got to try my face musles and learn to relax as i dont want neck going like deadre barlows. I had to sit watching her contorting her face demonstrating with a straight face

Hi Suncatcher, maybe when you are stressed you should think of the nurse and it will make you laugh instead!
I don't grind my teeth, but I do hold a lot of tension in my jaw and I am not yet very successful at relaxing it. I think I have done it for so long - I don't know how.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hi Suncatcher/alias Deadre lookalike,
I'd tend to agree with the relax advice, you need to chill out!
To help with this you might also need to think about your caffeine intake. Loads and loads of people are addicted to caffeine without being aware of it and need a regular "fix" of tea or coffee (or cola or chocolate).
If you are one of them you could try not having any caffeinated drinks after, say, 4pm. This might be enough to help you relax more at night without even having to go cold turkey on the lattes (or whatever).
I'm not going to make any puns about 'biting the bullet' (oh damn I just have).
The anti-gnash mouthpiece sounds a bit drastic, hope it doesn't come to that.
All the best, Kevin0 -
Hi Joanne
RELAX
Well that's easier said than done eh?
Mind you the thought of ending up with a deirdrie neck if you dont.....

Deirdre neck
Ooh you dont want one of them chuck or her cigarette voice for that matter. I grind my teeth when Im stressed so you need to relax more or get a bite guard for when you sleep. I have to really unwind before bed and relax as I take the guard out in my sleep0 -
I have been getting jaw ach and tooth ache. The dentist did recomend the tooth guard 165 pounds i said no for now.
I will do the mouth exercises, but secretly. I dont want anyone catching me. I think i would frighten the birds
I dont want to become a deiadre look alike. It sounds like a common thing according to your replys. You are right teeth are pecious i will do all i can to sort it.
Thinking of the nurse doing hers does make me laugh and it would relax me. I think i will look out for relaxing things to do.
Thankyou for your replys from joanneJoanne0 -
Hi Joanne
a Dierdire neck is like a turtle's
very scary
I found (I had jaw ache at chritmas through to january Joanne and it got stuck almost shut in the end) that tightening the msucles - then concsioulsy relaxing them at bedtime helped.
Good luck
