Short mini cruise and no pain

Hi everyone
We've just returned from a mini cruise. I don't know if it was because we were at sea but I experienced very little discomfort whilst walking on the ship and I slept like a baby - no aches or pains. The only stiffness I felt was when I had to get out of bed or out of a seated position.
In fact I skipped a couple of painkillers each day.
Maybe someone should event footwear that had water insoles to ease the pain of arthur whilst walking!
OH said it was probably because I didn't have to cook or do housework. Whatever the reason, it was very relaxing and we enjoyed ourselves.
I hope you are all ok.

Hi Sharmaine, you know what that means don't you .... you need to go on a cruise again very soon or win the lottery and live on a cruise ship!!!
Seriously though - glad you had a great few days.
Speedy
PS when's the next one?!I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
That's fab news.
I agree with speedy, another cruise is in order! You should ask your GP if they're available on the NHS.

Hi Sharmaine
That good to hear!
I have actually been looking at cruises in one of the Sunday newspaper supplements today...I just need to take the plunge and book one for next year ..(ooh - sorry - no pun intended)
Best wishes

So pleased you had such a great time away, Sharmaine.
I tend to agree with your OH that it was because you were relaxing more and being waited on you did not have to think about housework, shopping, meal preparation and all that goes in keeping our OH's happy at home
You will have to start looking around and booking the next one!

Hi Speedalong, Princess, Marion, Elna and Val
I'm already thinking about booking another short cruise. I just found it really easy walking about the ship. Now that I'm home my aches and pains have returned and I'm limping about (on other leg that needs TKR). It was heaven to be nearly pain free for four days.
Generally if we go anywhere I'm itching to get home but I could have stayed on board that ship for another 3 weeks. I had to take travel pills for the first 3 days but by the fourth day I had my sea legs!
The food was great and now I have to shift the four pounds I managed to put on!
Wouldn't it be great if we could have cruises on the NHS??
Take care everyone.

How lovely to hear that you had a good time. I think it's the fact that you were away from the every-day grind that really helped, proper rest and being waited on hand-and-foot. Perhaps maids should be on the NHS! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Sharmaine
That is great news you had some pain free days.
I am so pleased for you - you deserve some relief.
Maybe everyone on this site could get together and charter a whole cruise ship together (on the NHS of course!) and party on! 8)
Happy planning your next cruise!
Keep smiling

Hi Sharmaine
Glad you had a lovely break - you and OH deserved it.
Even better that you were in way less pain.
Maybe the rest as OH suggested?
Maybe the sea
maybe should be on prescription??
Love

Hi Carola, DD and Toni
Maybe it was the rest! I had my TKR in February and this short break was just what I needed. When I have my next TKR I'm going to ensure we have another little cruise in the same time frame (4 months post op).
We came home totally chilled - it was lovely.

I went on a cruise last year
with three kids
I came back - totally exhausted
Think I will try again when its just me and my husband eh?
Ok then - put a note in your dairy for 3 months post op - BOOK CRUISE for next month
Lovely

Hi Toni
I'm not surprised you were exhausted with 3 children to look after!
We upgraded our cabin so we had a window. We were on deck four and I could see the waves splashing against the window on a particularly rough night through the Bay of Biscay! They were huge. It didn't bother me at all.
Make a point of going when the children have grown up.

Sharmaine I really think I will.
there were a lot of things I loved about it - the food - the shows - the luxury
we went with R*yal C****ean. There were kids everywhere a cinema climbing wall and skating rink it was mayhem!
My husband went on one years ago and loved it so WILL give it a go I promise.
Thanks

So glad you had a relaxing time you needed the break.
My brother and his wife went on the Norway one and came back with overhanging tummy. Not like him at all, but said he could not resist the food. Never ending feeding times.

Maybe we should all get water beds to replicate sleeping on the waves!!
Could you just imagine us trying to get up out of a water bed?
Too funny

Hi Ironic
The food was good and I was surprised at the choice. Any longer and I would have been huge! We both put on a few pounds.

Hi Carola
It's a good point - I wonder if any arthur sufferers on the forum have water beds? My mother has one and she's 78. She has arthur too. They are expensive in the UK.
