I have posted about this long time ago ...still got it, bursitis in the hip ... i have started hydro last week and any movment makes it worse, it can be made so much worse that i cant move with it, causes excrutiating pain if over worked ... does anyone else get bursitis .. and was it properly diagnosed ?..

the area is so painfull to lye on, and to touch, i have been looking for some memory foam to make like a hoop to lye on ... but have not found any, having said that i don't go far but there should be some for sale somewhere ? ... any idea gratefully received ...

Hi Jen, not had bursitis, but do know how painful lying on my scar was when in hospital and nurses changing my sheets ....

I don't think it would have to be memory foam particularly as you are going to cut out a hole so the bursitis area is over the hole??? Do you have any old foam kitchen/garden chair cushions that you could cut up? Or could look on line? Or trying to think if something inflatable would work - though a child's swimming ring would be too big?? Might be worth asking the OT? or at Boots - they do a disability range - though anything special often works out expensive ...

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi Jen

    That sounds so painful!!

Sorry - I have never seen memory foam for sale by itself...

I have a memory foam mattress at home, which is great, but when I stayed with my sister after my recent hip replacement she put a polyester duvet on top of the mattress and I slept on that, and it was like sleeping on a cloud and really cushioned my thigh/leg..

    Best wishes

    Hi Jen
I had Bursitis on my hip last year , at the same time to having other problems with my hip so it was all fun and games last summer
My consultant said that it was partially due to carrying my baby/toddler and also due to the way I was doing it due to the RA in my Hip, all I know was that it bloody painful
In addition to the other procedures I had done at the time on my hip, my consultant treated the Bursitis with a steroid injection in the affected area, this is generally a last resort apparently but it did work very well.
The NHS website has info on the condition and its treatment options http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Bursitis/Pages/Introduction.aspx
    Hope that’s some help

    Hello,
I've had hip bursitus some time ago, before I really had arthritis. In the end I had a steriod injection and that worked. The doctor warned me it may take a few weeks to work and it took about a fortnight I think, but it did work in the end! I hope you find some relief.

    Hi Jen

Had it for a good while and has a few steroid jabs now - thought the last lot had worked but think the pain in my neck was at the time masking the pain in my hip

Looked at Chrissies link, but if I remember There is another option after steroid jabs (dont knwo where I read it) which was I think removal of the bursa via keyhole

Tell you what Jen - they can have mine with pleasure  I lie on the oposite side to the bad hip with pillow between my knees.

If you do find anything will you let me knwo?

    Love and sympathy

    Toni xx

This is very true. Some markets sell foam that they cut to size - you really need a body length piece. An old caravan sofa cushion would be ideal ...

Good luck, you have quite a project on your hand ...

HEY JUST THOUGHT - what about an camping mat/ aerobics mat - that would support the length of your body ... you could cut a hole out where your sore part is ... they are cheap - so could always buy two and have them two thick/high ....

    Hi Jen,
    Welcome to the Bursitis world!
I often feel that it is worse than the arthritis as nothing you can do seems to ease it at all.
I've had 2 lots of steroid injections, the first lot were done under anaesthetic and I had 5 all together, right into the hip joint. When I came round I cried because for the 1st time in several years my hip didn't hurt.
When this eventually wore off I went back to a different hospital to the pain clinic, where a very arrogant DR shoved a single jab straight into the hip joint without so much as a by your leave. It hasn't touched the pain this time around and I havn't gone back.
I find a rather often used medicine called 'chardonnay' sometimes helps, along with a nice warm bath.

Hi, My Mum had bursitis in her kneeyears ago. She had a small operation to remove the the bursa and was fine afterwards. It really was years ago, I can only just remember it!!!

I would think that these days surgery has become much more refined and I would suppose that it might be an even simpler job. Except that they may not do it as it causes something else, or dosn't always work. You know how these things go!!
