You lucky thing. They stopped ours three years ago, claiming it was too expensive to run. The rubbish on which they have spent money since leaves me fuming. I hope it is interesting and that you are able to pick up some useful tips. DD

    Dear Joanne

I do not know exactly what subjects are covered but I would think you may learn about setting goals, writing an action plan, perhaps something about fitness and exercise, better breathing skills, healthy eating, relaxation, communication with family and good friends, better use of medication.

I would think that at the end of it, Joanne, you would be a perfect candidate to become a tutor for all this if you would wish to do so. :)

The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.

    yes a few years ago
it was kinda good mostly as a way to meet other people who had understanding of what you were going through even if they didn't quite have the same thing
    ours was a good group
some of the subjects covered though were a bit stating the obvious and at points the group seemed to know an awful lot more about what was being talked about than the lady leading us
    hope yours is good

Yes went on one, lasted one session, a waste of time I thought.
I found that the challening pain course run by Arthritis Care more beneficial

Hi From what I know.....they pinched the course form Arthritis LOL C hallenging Arthritis.....Its much the same {or at least mine was} as the challenging arthritis except you had people with all sorts of chronic illness not just arthritits.....that why I found the arthritis one better and as I'm a volunteer anyway am training to be a tutor for the Challenging arthritis course.
Going back to your course....its setting goals, action plans etc, vartious ways to get over pain, {breaking pain cycle} and visualisation to take your mind of pain...how to self manage your condition...understanding symptoms and how to manage them...sex and intimacy, how to talk to your doctor {helath professionals} I think we could tell them a thing or two LOL Sorry this is garbled but it quite a few years ago that I did this one and am typing as I remember.....Go and enjoy it

Does it matter who else is going? On-going pain is on-going pain, no matter what its source. I wish you well and I hope it is something positive for you. DD

    Hi
Put your name down for a challenging arthritis course and if they get enough people in your area interested in it they will probably do one.

The EPP Chronic Disease Self-Management, 6 week course is the generic course, first brought into the UK around the start of the last decade, it is used in over 30 countries worldwide, in different parts of the country it is either managed by AC or NHS, depending on who has the contract. Some areas find it difficult to get any courses going due to pressures.

The AC Challenging Pain, 2 week course, was developed and ready 2008/9, offering a shorter course.

Yes, they are very similar, different people will take home varying benefits from the courses, which I believe can be seen as a 'blueprint' for life-skills, not just a fix for arther. Whichever course is used then you will benefit, often in unexpected ways, I would urge people to use them.

I expect someone will argue, the basic information is correct.

    8) Its a grin, honest!

    Hi,
The Challenging Arthritis couse I did lasted for 6 weeks....same as EEP....you're right they are both basically the same but from EEP I took away bits and pieces that applied to arthur but Challenging Arthritis it all pretty much applied.......Try and do both and then you can decide for your self.
