Hi

I am 23 and have arthritis of the hip and one leg shorter than the other. I have a blue badge and am unable to walk a great distance before i am in severe pain and cannot walk any further. I have had this since i was born and it is never going to be any better as a hip replacement is not possible for me.

I recently applied for DLA but my claim has been turned down. Has anyone else been turned down for this?

Thanks
Laura

Hi Laura, from what I have learned on this site - most people are turned down when they first apply!! You are in good company ... Psyche yourself and be prepared to appeal. Go to the citizens advice bureau to help you - they are experts at this.

Just out of pure nosiness - why can't they operate?

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

    Hi

I was born with a dislocated hip and this was not discovered until I was 10. By this time my hip socket had filled with cartilage so there is no where for a fake hip to go. If they do perform an operation, i will lose most of the mobility in my leg, and have been advised to cope as i am for as long as i can. great choices to decide from, pain but mobility, or no pain and no mobility.

I will give them a ring and see what they say.

Thanks for getting back to me

    Laura

hi they done the same to me and i went to the c.a.b and got them to appeal and also took along a copy of the pain survey from A C i printed off and then although i was well prepaired to fight with the help of the c.a.b they gave me it at the high rate for mobility, and even ones on the A C helpline was surprised, so that might be a good idea as well, infact i hoping to get an O T lady come and see me and i may just print off another copy again.

    i hope this helps.

    Hi Laura

Sorry to hear about the rejection of DLA.

I have just started ESA and DLA applications so not much experience yet.

I echo everyone else's advice - reading other people's experience CAB are good at appealing and applying for you. Also, copy any letters to your local MP as I have heard that can help sometimes.

Most important - keep positive, don't give up and keep smiling

You will get there in the end, just harness your frustrations and anger to pursuing this.

Good luck Laura and sending you lots of positivity, Carol
