The ghastly things are about, I saw my first one last night flying around in the gloom of the evening. I loathe them. You may know them better as cockchafers (and I bet they do!). This means that the stag beetles are not far behind, hence my now not going into the garden of a cool evening. I fear creatures that are ugly, and these two specimens are definitely that. Even beer goggles don't work. Ugh. DD

Oohhh not heard of these insects before ... had to google image for them .. was a bit concerned what I might be faced with

I hate daddy-long-legs especially when they fly at night and brush against your face and especially when you try and remove them from the bedroom and their legs come off - uuggh!!!

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

There OK DD won't hurt ya just think of them as little insect robots made from star dust, they wont sting and just want to be left alone just like bees, now wasps are another thing little stinging thugs they is, sort of like the larger lout of the insect world.

I know they won't hurt mel but they are horrible! It's the clumsy way they fly, the staggies especially, they are all over the shop. Ghastly.

I am a girl, you know. We are supposed to be scared of these things so you big hairy-chested blokes can do the rescue/hero thing and therefore look good. DD

    Hi DD,

I must be lucky.... I don't seem to get them... they might be out there somewhere but not near here....

Stag beetles are ok though and well I do get them... they sort of live here.... xx

Hi DD well they can't be good at everthing, flying is bottom of there list they just use it to find a mate and food, now if you want bugs go to Africa I have seen spiders as big as dinner plates and a brown hornet I swear could have carried off asmall child, and boy do those buggers sting well so I am told!.

I had to look them up, too - I know them as May bugs. Can't say they've bothered me overmuch, but I am not keen on the stag beetles, they can give a nasty bite.

Are they a bit early this year? Thought they came out to play about August.

Stupid things are always crashing into the light shades.

Ahem, one small admission to make. Handbag on floor, open, all night. Just went to get phone out of it to find the most humungous spider in there.

Screamed and did mini wardance on the spot!

Spider. Even the word itself is redolent with evil. Loathe 'em. Moongazer you have my most sincere sympathy. DD

I hope to be going to the pub a little later with VVP, we could sit outdoors but . . . . . pub is just up the hill (getting there not easy, getting home a piece of p**s, downhill with four limbs to control, I look like an old hand whisk, silver sticks spinning in the late evening sun!), so well within billy witch territory. I will sit inside. Evil big bu****s. DD

What's longtail mean on here? We used it as a name for rats, but ours were year-round devils.

I don't miss the pesky foxes one little bit!

For heavens sake, Moongazer, whereabouts are you? I've never come across that before and where I come from they are referred to freely as r@ts........there, I've disguised it for you. We had plenty of them to refer to!

Mind you, I never have the radio on, hubby does sometimes but only when it's 60's music.

No moongazer, VVP = vuvuprat. See a thread called 'Some Prat has a Vuvu' dated June 18. VVP is The Husband. Regarding VPL - no P, no L. Simples! DD

No, it was funny! He looks a little like Heston Blumenthal, so imagine him blowing (badly) a vuvu and you're there. Close your handbag tonight - we don't want robertls creeping in! :D DD

    Hi Moonie

Did you say you live in the isle of Man??

Sounds really lovely, but is it cold??

Think DD will let VVP have his hidden vuvu back this afternoon for the match :?:

    Love

    Toni xx
